thank you for this, very insightful.
I have beer, very loud music, and an empty house. I’ve chosen this thread over the poker game at the casino for my friday night entertainment; which is probably for the best as far as my wallet is concerned (horrible at poker - **MentalGuy **can probably vouch for that). Let’s see how much I can get done here before my wife gets home and tears me away from it.
Wow. Gnarly was not on my suspect list at all. I guess because he suspected me. Good one, everyone.
I still maintain my suspect list though.
- Choir
- Ed
- Fubble
Neta:
Choie not choir. Autocorrect got me there.
Fubble… Apps forgiven if you pass me a few beers.

I assume that was intended to say “All’s forgiven” (damn auto correct)? If you like your beer flooded with bloody mary mix and extra helpings of worcestershire/tabasco, you’re welcome to as many as you can drink.
special ed seems to have a serious broner for my friend Svejk…
as of EOD3, ed has posted 146 times. starting with his 5th post of Day 1, he has been on Svejk’s ass about one thing or another, responding directly to Svejk 35 times; there were 20 more posts where he talks of or about Svejk without directly quoting him, and only 35 more posts that could be even remotely classified as contributive.
as it is, this tally took me a bloody hour, so there’s no way I’m doing it for everyone (I thought it’d go quicker with some nifty javascript filtering, but the beer is already slowing my fingers down) and only a slight chance I’ll even do it for anyone else, unless it’s requested specifically.
disaster: I’ve somehow run out of both tabasco and worcestershire already. I blame that nogoodsonofabitch Mahaloth
Precambrianmollusc hasn’t posted in 10 days and was at one point early on a leading lynch candidate
Also, choie said I was defensive rather than offensive - I’d like to get more clarification as to what she meant by that?
Yeah, I have the feeling that **PCM **might be sleeping with [del]the fishes[/del] **orcenio **and gregorio soon.
I won’t have much time to post over the weekend as usual, so I thought I’d swing by in case I’m killed overnight. (I don’t think I’m particularly at risk, by any means, but for once I have a few things to say.)
Švejk, thanks for the summary. I think this helps confirm in my mind that my gut was right regarding special ed and Mahaloth leaning Town. While it’s not ironclad that scum players don’t go after one another, it seems unlikely to play so riskily early in the game, especially without any clear threat and a generally increase scum advantage (due to both kill results and generally low participation).
I’m hoping we’ve gained some momentum. I know for myself that I will be taking a hard look at Mental Guy tomorrow and I’d like to come up with some solid reasons for a vote. It’s been nibbling at the back of my mind for a few days and I’d like to either solidify or discard that position as it is definitely going to shape my view of the game at this point.
Also, Švejk, you don’t need to apologize – you didn’t do anything wrong. ?I don’t think you needlessly distracted anyone; hashing things out, even between Town players, isn’t a waste of time. There is such a thing as jerking people around, sure – I’ve seen scum use endless rule discussions and number crunching that way – but you’re nowhere near that and it doesn’t strike me as intentional in any case. Your concentration is right where it should be right now, on finding scum. Alignment-wise, I am neutral on you at this point. I’m not quite ready to call it a town vibe but your actions since our initial scuffle seem to have a town orientation to me. You have contributed some good content and you have a valid reason for being defensive (after all, I was clearly on the attack). As a new player, your actions make sense to me.
I was at work this morning and was just able to look at the board every few minutes. I was getting flashbacks to Ragnarok and wondering if the scum were just putting on a show. Thankfully, charlie did not have a fake mason claim to pull out. I am still not quite sure how it happened, but good work to all those that were involved. Also, Hirka T’Bawa gets some major townie points from me.
Guiri, to answer your question from last night, I had not put together a list of who I thought would be scum with Mahaloth. It is not that I don’t think there would be some value in it, but at my skill level, I think I am better off trying to find the first scum and then using that information to try to root out the others.

Why is** Svejk** your friend? I had Svejk as sort of a Townie newbie but I am still suspicious of you.
why is the first question relevant, and how are the two related?
Why do you call him your friend on here or do you know him in RL, that’s all? If you don’t know him in RL then it looks like you could be scum buddies.
I believe the term is snuggling. It is remarkably effective, I find myself having a hard time denouncing it, worried that I might hurt fubbles’ feelings. Then again, he is just some random bozo on the internet that I don’t really know IRL and might never meet, and everybody knows that random bozos on the internet have no feelings. So here goes - I find Fubbleskag increasingly suspicious for all the nice things he says to and about me, and especially after that little stunt he pulled yesterday trying to ‘save me’.
YesterDay, two people specifically stated they leaned town on me: **Gnarly**and Fubbles (again here). In the case of Gnarly, this makes good sense - there was a good chance that I was going to get lynched and if that did in fact happen and people saw I was town, he would at least have gone to bat for me, and he’d have been right all along. The same might be true for Fubbleskag.
Then there was the time that **Mahaloth **and I were tied for the lynch 3-3, and **fubbles **withdrew his vote for **Mahaloth **and voted for himself, so that Mahaloth now had 2 votes, I still had three, and he now too had three. He was trying to save me. It was only a matter of time before someone (me, in this case, but I was not alone in being confused about this move) pointed out that this makes no sense - and Fubbleskag revoted Mahaloth. Someone was bound to come along and point this out, or he could have posted something like ‘I redid the math on this one and actually I’m not saving Švejk, but Mahaloth, putting myself at risk needlessly, so I’m undoing what I did, sorry everybody’. Very possibly an empty gesture rather than failed heroics.
My cases against Ed have been rated
and
(here and here). Now he attacks Ed, who I’ve voted for twice, for ‘being on my ass’ (here) and he calls me his ‘friend’, and earlier ‘peach’. This man is just being *too *nice. I think this might be a case of scum being nice to a vocal newbie in hopes that it might give him some town cred. Consider yourself pinged, mister.
Small correction - the case rated
by Fubbleskag was against Scathach, not against Ed.
Thanks for the well-wishes, I did have a good sleep but I could still do with some more, I’m still at a deficit for sure.
Re: ed’s having removed his vote from you… since you think/thought Ed is scum, that’s an odd thing to use in your defense!
Or does his having changed his mind about you change your mind about him?
Well, my issue ws that almost all of your posts (until now, with your very helpful look back at gnarlycharlie’s record–awesome job!) have been about defending yourself and OMGUSing special ed. I mean, do you actually think this is making a case on special ed? It’s saying almost nothing about his other actions; it’s about his suspicions against you, not your suspicions against him.
That’s what I mean about defensive rather than offensive. Heck, here you even say "I should say why Ed is scummier than others but you proceed not to say anything about Ed in that post; your whole stated rationale for voting special ed was because he was going after you. A classic OMGUS move common for newbies; I know I did the same thing at least once in my first game. It’s also common for scum.
So basically while you don’t need to beat yourself up or wear a hair shirt, I (unlike fluiddruid, whose post should make you feel all warm and snuggly :D) did think you were a distraction, just like the weird posts from fubbleskag and Mahaloth. Not a heinous distraction, but it wasn’t particularly productive Townie behavior either.
Combined with that oddball last-minute switch from Scathach back on D1, I just felt, yeah, he could well be newbie scum trying desperately to avoid getting lynched. That seemed to be your main raison d’etre in the thread on D2; you even stayed away for a few days because you were low about the prospect of being lynched (understandable for anyone, Scum or Townie) and didn’t want to add fuel to the fire (less understandable for a Townie). All that seemed anti-Town to me. The weird dynamic about this game is that the more you post about your own innocence, the guiltier you look. At least IMHO. My reasoning could certainly have been wrong, but that’s what it was.
As I’ve said before, if you’re Townie, keep posting as you have been for the past 24 hours – investigate, don’t defend. (I’m not saying you can’t defend yourself, just don’t focus the majority of your time on that.) This way even if the worst happens and you are lynched, at least your posts offer us a useful batch of post-mortem fodder to examine. Same goes for me or any other Townie.
Do I think you’re a prime D4 lynch candidate? Nah, not at this time; there are a variety of candidates as far as I can tell, and I definitely want to look at gnarlycharlie’s history. Again, thank you for that, it’s most helpful.
Anyway speaking of posting only on one topic, I think I’ve spent enough on this one. There’s scum to be hunted and since this Night could be my or any other Townie’s last, we need to get crackin’.
Hm, you know, to be honest, I’m looking back on your posts and I think I was misremembering them. So I apologize for that.
