Is it OK to speculate about the setup in the game? With 20 players, 4, max 5 scum, possibly some PFK/3rd party (the crazy role?), standard roles such as cop, doc, roleblocker. Possibly a godfather. Maybe a couple of masons and at least 11 vanillas. Thoughts?
@ Choie, you mentioned that you write romance novels with a horror twist, how would the staring match proceed in your version of Eduardo’s story?

For being first to confirm, scum are uber eager to get started.
Ooh good question. Since I tend to write angsty stuff and love tortured heroes, I’d say most likely Eduardo would be pushing our heroine away / abandoning her for noble reasons, because he has some dark secret that he fears could put his beloved in peril.
This isn’t to say that Eduardo isn’t dangerous to the heroine–ideally he has a serious dark side that could genuinely wreak havoc on others. But he’d be fighting his impulses and would either a) sacrifice himself to save the heroine, or b) the heroine would show how strong and brave she is, and thus capable (and willing) enough to deal with whatever Eduardo’s problem is. For a happy ending, they’d both fight the demon (inner or external) together; for a sad ending, the heroine would be forced to kill Eduardo or he ends up killing himself.
So, erm, yeah. That’s how I’d probably go. That’s usually how most gothic romances go, actually.
In the interest of justice, I must admit I was the first to confirm, before the opening color was even posted.
Oh crap, forgot to bleach the voting color. Sorry about that, Trepa Mayfield. I instinctively went to edit it out, but then remembered the “no edit rule” so we’re stuck with the blue. Sorry.
NETA: Blimey, we simulposted. I didn’t realize we weren’t supposed to post in green – isn’t that how posts directly to the mod work? But either way, the anti-choie vote is a fair cop, since as I mentioned earlier, I was the first to confirm.
Gasp! Accusing a writer of being influenced by Twilight is definitely a scum tell!
Heh no, Twilight followed a pretty standard formula, particularly for paranormal romances where the guy’s a (vampire/werewolf/demon/werehamster) and the girl is mortal.
Actually I didn’t think of Eduardo as the bad guy, just a tortured hero type – In fact, I think it’d be easier to read that color as implying Eduardo is a villain in Trepa’s color. Either way, the heroine/focal character is usually a protagonist, though certainly there are exceptions to that rule, so basically I just picked from the romance cheat-sheet and decided to go with mistaken heroine/misunderstood tortured hero archetypes. Classic gothic stuff.
Wow this is hella off-topic. Sorry. NaNoWriMo has me thinking like this.
It’s newbfriendly, though so I don’t know. I’d say account for a survivor and a serial killer and a mixed powers scum team but don’t be surprised if there’s just a hella vanillas.

Newb here - care to tell me a little bit about what PFK means? Also, I’ve tried to familiarize myself with the different roles, but I have not come across a roleblocker. I am also not familiar with any of the roles that Inner Stickler mentions. What do they do?
PFK stands for Plays For Keeps. A PFK is a third party player who can steal the win from town or scum. Some call these roles exclusive because they exclude others from winning. Other roles are inclusive, they win with town or scum. Survivor and Serial Killer are examples of each. A survivor must simply avoid being killed and win with either side as long as they’re still alive at Endgame. A Serial Killer is a lone party with a NK, and they must also be alive at Endgame and be the last surviving player. They take the win from either side.
