Mafia: The Thrill of the Chase [Newbie Friendly!]

It certainly seems like not having some bizarre new gameplay twist has taken away our usual day 1 conversation crutch.

How many new players do we have in this game? I saw some new faces, but I don’t know their mafia experience.

I’ve played Mafia 2,3 times before, not SDMB, I wanna say GB and idlemafia-although my memory sucks ass on this topic- I only play in the winter; I’m too busy the other times of the year.

Also played some sort of Survivor type game on idlemafia, completely different setup.

I go by fisheroo everywhere else.

I am really going to enjoy reading along with this one. That’s a Bulwer-Lytton contest submission, right there.

Sorry, about the edit; forgot I can’t.

The only thing I changed was to add the last sentence of my post, explaining I am fisherooeverywhere else.

Never played before. Go gentle?

Well day one is always tough to get going.

Random pontificating about the game set up;

  1. Colour is not meaningful, so I guess we can ignore the florrid prose and assume we are dealing with a regular set up without too many wacky roles.
Other than possibly one hinted at my our dashing handsome moderator with his devil may care grin and his tender yet firm grip on the game mechanics.

  2. 20 people - wild guess at 4 - 5 scum (no that is not PIS before anyone starts) one of which may be a godfather type role - ie immune to investigations

  3. A doctor role to protect from night kills and an investigation role?

  4. a small masonary as an outside possibility

That’s just based ona game I played on domebo/whatever it is now which was a newbie friendly very vanilla game.

If we have a random wacky role - could be a PFk survior, which I would geuss wouldn’t reduce the number of scum or affect other roles. I would geuss that if the unanticipated power role is a serial killer type role, we may expect either additional form of investigation, or protective role.

PIS = perfect information syndrome

This is my first game. I’ve tried to read up on some previous games played on SDMB but I don’t have a good feel for what is normal and abnormal play yet.

just to confirm - a sk would strike at night, right, in addition to a scum kill?

From what I have seen in prior games a serial killer would strike at night, most roles are night actions, although "unanticipated role " could be a day power - saving someone from a lynch or something like that?

I’ve never played before either, so hopefully this will be a simple game.

How do we usually get started, just speculating? Random accusation? A ceremonial gathering of pitchforks and torches?

Yes pretty much, day one lynches are normally for terrible reasons, other than some spectacular error from scum.

So how come there’s only two votes in? Come on people, make with the false accusations!

suuuuuuuurrrrreeeee

It’s a shame we’ll have to kill you for it.

Your accusation is false then?

I misspoke - it’s random, so I it may or may not be false.

Fair 'nuff

Vote Svejk

for voting randomly (so he claims) for Silverjan

Is junior modding part of your new approach to the game? Along with making short-breathed sheep sounds?

What happens in the event of a tied vote?

We all vote for you…

wait, huh?

Are you confusing false accusation with wild guess?

It would only be false if it weren’t truly random, right?

I assume this was directed at me.

I’m not junior modding. I’m just trying to build consensus to lynch the over-eager.

Let them die and decrease the surplus population

Humbug!
