MAGA women and their hair extensions

He might feel different if he could grow one.

You’re kidding, right? Because if not you have not been paying attention these last 20 years.

Seems to me Hillary Clinton was called every name in the book. From her earliest days as First Lady of Arkansas.
Pelosi has been called horrible names.
Both were dissed on looks and clothing choices.

AOC’s appearance is frequently commented upon.

Also, it isn’t just women, though it is typically aimed at them more. Here are some of the male counterparts I can think of that get made fun of for their looks:

  • Trump - Orange, fat, diapers, whatever that thing is that lives on top of his head
  • Gaetz after he single-handedly depleted the US of it’s supply of botox
  • Vance - Eyeliner
  • Chris Christie - Obese
  • M McConnell - Turtle
  • Ted Cruz - Run down Wolverine, Mississippi Mudflap
  • Trey Gowdy - His gazillion different hair styles, all of them hideous

LOL - I see what you did there. Right? Sarcasm?

Nope. They meant it. They were … confused. But sincere. And confused.

Hair extensions are just…in. Snooki and Amy Winehouse were adding hair bumps in the early 00s and they became popular.

I’ve never seen their show but I have no doubt that the Kardashians were adding weaves in their show.

The Kardashians tended to bring trends over from the Black community to the rich white community. And then it eventually trickles down to the not-rich white community.

The women on Secret Lives of Mormon Wives/MomTok (who are Conservative-thinking but not conservative-acting) are obsessed with their hair weaves. I think one of them owns a weave business.

So much of what is popular today (clothing, style, speech) can be traced back to Black culture, which often gets picked up by gay culture and drag culture, and then eventually picked up by The Masses. But somehow the acceptance of the actual originators of these styles goes by the wayside.

Rock on to y’all who have beautiful butt-length hair, all on your own. I highly doubt that the weaves/extensions are trying to replicate your style. It’s too much hard work for them.

I meant on this board.

I would wager that MAGA men have been made fun of for their looks more than MAGA women on this board. How many names are there for Trump that make fun of his looks? Let me tally it up…carry the one…that comes to 2.6543 gazillion. This is a left leaning board. While we shouldn’t me making fun of peoples looks, I don’t think that is what OP is doing. Plus, Trump has made fun of peoples looks more than anyone in these parts so we have a right to “punch back” as he so often says.

The hair is a class thing, no strictly a conservative thing. To have hair like that, you need to invest a lot of time and money, and you have to live a lifestyle that involves no physical labor of any sort. It’s the equivalent of the elaborate hairstyles of pre-revolutionary France.

Not entirely true. My daughter works on a ranch. It’s very physical. She has hair to her butt. (I may be misinterpreting “hair like that.” I don’t know if we’re talking about long hair in general or hair extensions.)

How does she wear it?

Long and straight. Is this thread about something more elaborate? (I really need to pay more attention I guess)

Hair extensions aren’t necessarily about having very long hair. They can be about having longer and fuller hair than would be typically normal for a person’s age. Someone with shoulder-length hair may get extensions to make their hair look fuller even if it only goes to their shoulder. Hair thinning is common with age in both men and women. The growth cycle may shorten over time, which means hair doesn’t reach as long of a length before falling out. It’s not all that different as to why men would get hair transplants. Having thick, long hair is a sign of youth, and extensions make someone’s hair look similar to how hair looks on younger people.

But it does seem like Republicans seem to have more of these sort of body image procedures done, like plastic surgery, breast augmentation, body shaping, etc. It’d be interesting to do a study about what kind of body and image modification procedures are common in Republicans vs. Democrats.

“Moldy”…hmmmm…Hokay, I ken buy dot.

No ponytail? No braid?

Is the difference that the MAGA woman critique is about an expensive and fairly rigid style and look they adopt and conform to while the critique of Democratic women is more about their particular, individual choices and looks?

It might be; I know I’ve heard people refer to the “Republican android” look in the past.

I suspect what’s going on right now is that the D women are still mostly in the “politicians are politicians” era.

While the R women have moved on to the “politicians are celebrities and celebrities are politicians” era. There is quite a revolving door between TV presenters or actors, and R politicians. This is true for both male and female. The revolving door strongly selects for a conventional form of youthfully pretty regardless of actual age. And that selection is more harsh for women than men.
