Magiver, are you okay?

Like, seriously, man, are you okay? Is everything all right in your life? Do you have some kind of problem going on that you’re working through, or…? Did you get off your meds? I’m kinda worried about you, and I’m guessing I’m not the only one.

I ask because what’s going on in this thread is just such an utterly bizarre spectacle. I mean, seriously, I’m trying to figure out what’s going through your head when you post things like this:

That’s… a pretty bad post. But okay, sometimes we fuck up in defense of our political causes. Hell, I did earlier this week when I thought that Trump made a video that he merely distributed. I corrected my error and apologized. It happens.

Where it gets worrying is here. After around 50 posts of people explaining exactly what’s wrong with what you’re saying, and citing relevant experts, you still have this to say:

It’s like you didn’t even read a word of what anyone else said, and just repeated the same thing like someone who cannot cope with reality or remember what’s going on. It’s like what happens when my grandmother has a really bad day.

“I swear, I put the keys to my Lexus on the shelf just this morning, and now I can’t find them…”
“Grandma… you sold your Lexus years ago when we all agreed you weren’t fit to drive any more, don’t you remember?”
“No, it was definitely right there, I remember it! And now I can’t find them! I hope they haven’t been stolen by my no-good grandson…”
“Grandma… I’m your grandson.”
“What? No, that can’t be right… Now where are my keys? I know I put them right here…”

So I have to ask - are you okay? Did you get off your meds? Are you eating right?

And hey, I wouldn’t start this thread if I hadn’t been there before. I got off my meds earlier this year and it was not good for me. Now I’ve doubled my original dose and I’m doing better. Maybe that’s what you need, too?

Basically, what I’m saying is, I’m worried about you, man. Call this an intervention, if you’d like. There’s something wrong with you, something causing you to make very poor decisions in ways that could very well hurt you or those you love. Please, for the sake of those you care about, consider consulting a psychiatrist. They can help - or at least help put you in a position where your mental degeneration isn’t going to hurt anyone else. Hopefully a position far away from the rest of us, because this really isn’t pretty to look at. :frowning:

Sincerely,
Your friend,
BPC.

So: Magiver believes that Trump projecting the path of the hurricane as known at that time a little further is not that big a deal.
People then disagree.
At which point you apparently expect him to issue an apology, and a retraction of some sort, the absence of which leads you to to be concerned about medication, harm to self or others, and flirting with a dementia diagnosis. That is both repugnant and insane.

Projection is a powerful thing sometimes.

“No-you!” by proxy.
How predictable.

Yeah, I like satire more than most, but this is just out of bounds, and plain mean.

“Something” is probably wrong with Magiver, but it looks to be the standard “partisan asshole” variety wrongness, not something medical. We’ve had the odd [sic] poster with some genuine red flags for mental illness in their posts; I’m not seeing anything like that here.

Magiver has been like this for as long as he’s been on this board.

Like, projecting the path of a hurricane?

Can’t argue with you there. It makes idiots to rally to a cause. That’s powerful dumb.

Wow, if he’s always been like this, then I need to look up his other posts to feed my love of the absurd. Because that’s what jumped out at me in the Fake Hurricane News thread: Magiver was either so partisan* that he’s willing to twist reality until it exonerates Trump from even a needless lie, or he was putting on an over-the-top persona to mess with everyone else. On the other hand, if he is off his meds… Hey, Magiver, those pills have a purpose! I think the label says “Take two before posting”.
*Seriously, read that thread if you haven’t. We’re talking Baghdad Bob levels of delusion.

I have. And I stand by my statement that his posting in that thread is consistent with his posting style for as long as I’ve interacted with him.

He’s posting less these days, but not differently.

Not cool. And offensive as all fuck. Especially so if you’re expecting to be taken seriously and not as someone issuing a mocking response.

Medicalizing a discussion participant, relegating their opinions and passions and viewpoints and understandings to a bunch of misfiring neurons, is an incredibly dehumanizing way of discrediting what they’re saying. It’s pernicious because it disguises the discrediting with a patina of compassionate concern.

It’s the lowest form of argument ad hominem. If I were a moderator there would be a moratorium on this inference being used. Warnings would be issued for violations of it.

(Yes, it does push some buttons for me for personal-historical reasons. That doesn’t invalidate what I’m saying about it. It’s entirely not cool)

This much candor at one time may be harmful, or even fatal, to those of us who haven’t developed a tolerance for it.

You can tell that Magiver is a piece of shot because Shodan is here to defend him.

Y’know, Wolf333 isn’t as dumb as his spelling makes him seem.

The Soviet model. Marxism was an objective truth, as proven by the twin sciences of history and economics. Therefore, political dissidence was clearly irrational and a product of mental illness. It was therefore medically valid to send the dissident to a mental hospital for treatment. There was kind of a point, in that political dissidence was clearly detrimental to the well-being of one’s self and one’s family. Of course, this approach did not become common until after the Stalin years, which had a more direct and final treatment for such mental illness.

Dumbthink isn’t pathology, usually its simple ignorance. Willful ignorance often supports an unreasonable opinion, but there is no line where political stupidity crosses over into psychological illness. Sure, believing that Trump is a brilliant leader is crazy, but that does not necessarily mean that the believer is crazy.

So, this guy was being treated for delusion, he believed that he was dead. The doctor conducting his treatment used every reasonable argument, but the patient consistently created elaborate rationales to evade them. Finally, the doctor had an inspiration, and asked: “Do dead people bleed?”

“Of course not.” answered his patient. The doctor seized a needle and poked the patients thumb, squeezing out a drop of blood.

“There! What have I just proved to you!”

“Wow!” said the patient “Dead people do bleed!”

Alabama better watch the fuck out for itself.
