Why on multi-page threads, instead of the links to each page, I’m seeing a drop-down menu where you have to type which page you want to go to? What the fuck did you do now? Jesus Christ.
(I’d use BigT’s user script, but part of the time I’m using my parents’ computer because mine isn’t working properly. I appreciate his work, though)
My best guess is that they were trying to answer the criticism of the new skin having page numbers all being bold (instead of just the page number you are currently on like it used to be).
But this new solution is horrible. If they have to go back to the first “fix” which had the all bolded page numbers I sure wish they would. That was bad enough, but this multiple click, drop down type in page number thing is AWFUL. Or, or, or… maybe they could go back to how it was originally?
Geez, you guys. Can’t you at least try? I dont like this “two steps back, one more step back” type of tinkering.
It’s still a major inconvenience to not have the “Last Posted at x time” and “Go to Last Post” options.
And agree that having to click a drop down menu and type in the page you want to go to in order to go next or back is mind-numbingly stupid.
Must we really have BOTH the floating Up arrow AND the About This Message Board floating bar? They serve the same purpose and take up valuable screen space!!
The page numbers are there, but they’re white against a white background, which makes them impossible to see. Only the page you’re on is visible, but if you click blindly in the white bar, you’ll change the page, only not to the one you might want.
And maybe it’s my browser, but that dropdown arrow just plain doesn’t work.
On the one hand I’m impressed that TPTB tried to do something, anything, new with the boards. And that they are now attempting to fix some of the worst issues with the new theme they installed. That’s the boldest administrative activity I’ve seen performed on these boards in years and I hate that it isn’t going well so far.
But while they assemble a corporate task force to schedule meetings about the possibility of investigating potential fixes to this theme, in the mean time BigT’s userscript has pretty much fixed all of them for me. I almost never visit the forums from a phone or tablet so for me that’s the simplest solution.
I’m still hoping TPTB intend to take the common sense and very easy step of allowing us to select between this or the old theme once that decision makes its way through committee. But now a week into the fiasco without any sign of doing so, I’m not counting on it.
Speaking of my script, is the following everything that got messed up by the update?

[li]Reply / New Threead are the wrong color text[/li][li]Page numbers are white on a white background.[/li][/ul]
I’m afraid I won’t try to keep up with this thread. Some big changes have been made, but more new problems were introduced than identified problems fixed. Preview is still broken.
The intolerable bug with the CODE tag was not addressed. I guess it’s considered an unimportant exotic feature most Dopers don’t use.
I hereby petition the Mods to delete all my posts that use CODE.
The new “improved” rendering of CODE makes my old posts look like they were written by an idiot.
Note: code tags was already in there, and fixing the overlapping boxes is another thing I had already put in but hadn’t released yet.
Also, to Guin: You may want to consider using a portable browser on a Memory Stick. Just Google portable Chrome or portable Firefox. That way you carry your browser with you, on any computer you use. You can install extensions (and user scripts) and it won’t affect anything.
On my PC (get off my lawn) the heavy blue bars are gone, replaced by a gray bar. The font size no longer resembles Safe Mode. These were probably my biggest annoyances.
Advanced search still only displays 3/4 of the page, with 1/4 (far right) unreachable off screen. (iPad mini, safari)
Also, why did you remove the ‘view first unread’, or whatever it used to say? The function still works if you click on the arrow, but that’s not terribly helpful to new users if it’s left unlabelled, I should think.
They have different functions. The floating arrow takes you to the top of the current page. About This Message Board allows you to change to a different forum.
Yeah, some minor glitches in the CSS involving white text.
Is there anyone working on this full-time? Because from my experience with vBulletin, this is not a fix that should take more than a few minutes.
(Yes, that is an accusation. Seriously, did you not check after rolling it out before calling it a night? I used to run forums, none quite this big, but still - this is just… Need a volunteer to help?)
