Lots of comments in the poll threads have been like that. They’re not as simple as “who’s hotter”. Whether that’s relevant to the participants in this thread, I can’t say.

Sex and sexual attraction are normal and natural biological functions. I’m not sure the problem with threads that are clearly labeled containing sexual content. If there is a disproportionate amount of women polls or whatever the I’m not sure if that’s a problem since women or men who like the male aesthetic can post polls like that at will.

All the “which chick is better?” polls in a row really did make me think I was on a high school boys discussion board, if high school boys still used message boards.
We have been having this conversation about the SDMB being male-dominated, anti-women, what-have-you for years. YEARS. I wish we could talk about something more interesting. The fucking world tends to be male dominated but so what. It ain’t gonna change because we keep on talking about it. We women just go on about our business and it changes because of that.
I appreciate being reminded to be thoughtful about what I post and the effect of might have on others. And I also appreciate being told if what I post offends. How else to grow and try to become a better person?

I fully support the OP. I can recall aeons ago working my behind off to try and keep the Haiku game from becoming the KamaSutra game. It was a constant battle, but the tone has (mostly) stayed a little higher since then. There have been whole seasons when I just checked out of it though.
The point being not that I need to control the board, but that every community has a tone, and we all contribute to it. There ARE times when decisions are necessary to set boundaries.
Summer is coming, and we can fully expect our annual influx of teens pretending to be grown-ups and trying to discuss anal sex or masturbation techniques. We’re used to it, and the majority of the year it’s not a problem.
But I think this would become a pretty boring place if the hentai crew were allowed to take over. Most of the females would bow out eventually, and the Dope would become just another of zillions of wanker boards on the internet. What we are right now is different, and yes, we aspire to a more intellectual tone. There is nothing wrong with that, and there is nothing wrong with defending it.
There is a small but persistent minority here who are offended by anything too high-brow. There’s a board for them too, may it serve them well.
It would be easy to become (and make more money as) just another Penthouse Fauxroom on the interwebs. We don’t need another one of those, there are plenty already. And we don’t have another one of these, so let’s not wreck it.
To me, the really tiring part is the idiots who dig into a thread and just keep posting and posting their misogynist crap without ever considering that they might be incorrect.
