Male Centrism at the Dope

I missed the kerfuffle about skald threads since I only read about half of his hypothetical because they don’t interest me. I’ve seen the who’s hotter threads but I haven’t participated because none of the questions interested me.

Threads come in waves because while someone may be interested generally in a concept like which woman is hotter but the given set may be outside of their interest. So having seen I dream of Jeannie or bewitched only in reruns I don’t care who’s hotter but it may make me wonder who on the cast of Buffy was the hottest since it was cool when I was of the age to care about stuff. Eventually the people will have all of the tangential interests covered and the wave moves on to which Elvis song is the beat. Which will evolve on to which Nickleback song is least likely to make you kill yourself.

In short I don’t think waves of a theme should be a problem. But if every week a new who’s hottest thread was posted there would be a problem. I lso don’t think that people should be limited in what threads they find interesting even if it’s a 10th hottest hottie thread because if no one else finds it interesting it naturally goes away fairly quickly the only exception was that poster a couple of years back who kept a dozen of his poll threads alive and was cluttering out other discussion.

I think the surprise sex warning is good since it can allow you to skip threads that don’t interest you but the solution to too much talk you don’t like is to balance it with talk you do like and if every person opened a thread about which Bloodsport is the best or whatever does interest them when they saw a thread about who’s tits are the best I bet Bloodsport would get more views and help push the tits thread off the front page. That’s not to say it’s your fault threads you don’t like are prevalent but what this board needs in more conversation not less.

Contrary to how most people supposedly age, the older I get, the more liberal I get. And the more that I realize the privilege is a real thing. And the more that I get fed up with the misogynistic bullshit that is pervasive in society. Enough!

Mustache Pete’s managers are certainly entitled to set rules. I think we can all agree that the the right thing for them to do is to set a whole bunch of new rules in place so that all their customers who have been with them for decades don’t offend me.

Oh, fuck off Scumpy you twiddling turd monkey.

Good Christ, nobody can be this stupid. You have, I can only conclude, never read a post by either one of them.

I mean this honestly…who are you again? Your name is utterly unfamiliar to me.

Ever watch Bar Rescue? Sometimes keeping your old obnoxious customers happy is what kills your business. You never get new ones.

Not getting this at all.

There are lots of threads in several fora here. By the titles and mouseovers I can tell right off that many of them are of no interest to me so I don’t click them. It is easy to do, that not clicking. In fact so easy that it my action for most threads here. Heck, there are fora I don’t even open.

If there were not enough threads here that were of interest to me, then I’d not bother.

Or maybe I’d try to get some discussion going that was of interest to me myself.

I’m thinking that posters here DO THINK before they post. Maybe you don’t like like what they like to think about? But heck, looking, for example, at IMHO right now, there is one thread in the top fifteen that might be male-centric: “Poll: Guys, would you wear these pants?”. Another seven to get to “What do women think of being in the presence of scantily clad women (i.e., Hooters?)” which is more about women’s reactions to sexist displays and would be a stretch to call it male-centric.

It seems to me there is no lack of diverse content for those who do not want to read a Skaldian hypothetical or opine about Marianne v Ginger. From the thoughtful to the inane to the silly.

And I for one would be happy to lurk in a thread about which fictional male character appealed more and why. Who’d possibly not choose Shadow Moon?

And if every interaction with half the population every day was affected by being a blue collar worker, including sexually charged interactions that were known to leave people like you dead, you might not have been able to get over it so easily.

I’m not sure that covers all of it. As octopus correctly points out, sex is a natural, biological function. So is defecation. If MPSIMS had lots of posters who regularly posted about bowel issues–several threads on the front page about which tissues worked best for wiping, how to handle unexpected bathroom emergencies, which foods led to the most solid stool, funny stories about sharting, whether enemas worked, describe your latest enema, which enema brands are best, and so on and so on–I gotta say, after awhile I’d get tired of it. I mean, sure, it’s a natural function, but the details of other folks’ poop doesn’t really do a lot for me, and every time I see mention of other folks’ poop it’s a tiny little blecch for me.

We do have bowel threads. But not anywhere near the quantity that we have threads about the hawtness of wimmin. And it sounds to me like it’s the quantity, not any individual thread, that’s irking folks.

If we had a dozen new active threads a day about bowel issues, I’d think that the board needed less conversation about bowel issues. I wouldn’t think that problem would be just simply solved by my starting more threads.

Of course it’s not a perfect analogy–but if you criticize it, I hope you’ll focus on criticizing relevant aspects, not irrelevant aspects.

Right…except we can’t carry the bar analogy too far. The existing members are what generate the content and draw people to this place.

She’s absolutely right. Your politics may be different, but your confused fury at the world around you is pretty much the same as theirs.

Oh, Princess, you never disappoint…

No, you do get it. The idea is that at a certain tipping point, a lot of women won’t bother to stay here.

Actually, you’re an adequate substitute if the resident stooped calls in sick.

heh

Men keep telling us to ignore shit we find distasteful, unfunny and offensive. Which we do*. Eventually we just remove it from our consciousness entirely–which is why this place is a sausage fest and about as funny as a rubber crutch.

This restaurant may serve awesome wings, but they have a bunch of assholes who sit over in the corner and yell stupid shit constantly, they piss on the floor and harass everyone who walks by. I don’t care how good the wings are, I’m not gonna pay money to be yelled at and smell stale pee. I’ll go elsewhere and be fine with the second best wings.
*This often results in the SURPRISE midlife divorce where the guy never saw it coming.

I resent my Westworld poll being lumped in with the others.

The two women in my poll are revolutionary leaders. They are not necessarily in opposition to each other but their approaches to rebellion are wildly different. Discussion in the thread by those who’ve watched the show have focused on their traits as generals, not on their sex appeal. I don’t think their sex appeal was even mentioned. You could try to have sex with them, but they’ve moved so far beyond such mundane concerns that they’d probably just kill you out of hand.

I guess I could have included Bernard in my Westworld poll, but he’s not the one running a revolution. Not yet, anyway.

Oh my! An epic burn.

But even if your oh-so-clever insult was true, it’s not hard to be aware of basic facts, biological or otherwise. Such as, regardless of your tiresome clinging to a few of these gals, you still aren’t getting laid.

Or you find them whining about why they can’t find a woman who will date 'em.
