Man of Steel is going to rock your freaking socks off

I do love Christopher Reeve’s work, but I grew up watching George Reeves as Superman. (Thank you, Mr. Obvious!) One thing to remember is that the old B&W TV series was aimed solely at children, as were the comic books of the day. By the time Christopher Reeve had the role, the focus had shifted to teenagers and young adults and more subtleties and adult themes could be explored. It isn’t (or, at least, wasn’t) hard for kids in the early 1960’s to believe that a change of clothes and glasses was a pretty good disguise.

eye masks were (is?) a common disguise, and basically it’s sort of like spectacles with really thick frames. either way, even as a child i never considered them appropriate disguise against anyone you knew.

We still need an effective Luthor. One who sees himself as the “Good Guy,” not a crook or real-estate speculator. The Luthor who is a genius inventor, who had been working to improve the lot of all mankind (and maybe get rich in the process). However, he recognizes that none of his works are safe anymore, and nothing built by a man would be able to stand for more than the blink of an eye against this creature from outer space.

This Luthor will do great things just as soon as he saves us from the threat of the Alien, or at least gets the rest of humanity to recognize the danger of a super-powered being who is indistinguishable from a normal person. That would be an interesting antagonist.

I thought he was just mad because he lost all his hair?

There’s a Lexcorp building in the background of one of the scenes, so they’re already setting him up for the sequel as ‘shrewd business tycoon’.

My favorite Luthor was John Shea, in The New Adventures of Lois & Clark. Shrewd, savvy businessman; evil genius; romantically interested in Lois. In the comics Luthor has been a businessman (rather than a mad scientist) since the Crisis of '78.

I like this. It is an interesting flip of the idea of Tony Stark opposing Loki (with the help of his friends, of course).

He’s both now. Somewhere in the last 5 - 10, They brought back the mad science angle, now fronted and funded by his business tycoonery. To the world, he’s Richard Branson. To the superheroes, he’s the genius in the power suit.

As long as he isn’t still President.

The one from the cartoons was kind of both. He was a billionaire company head but also a brilliant engineer.

So was the whole movie run through an Instagram filter?

New trailer is posted at Apple. Holy cow I can not wait.

I so want to see this now.

This movie frankly looks so awesome it’s not describable. Is there some angsty Superman? Looks like it… but it looks like it’s about HOW he becomes the idealist Superman. How he learns his path is nobility and righteousness. I can’t wait.

Just watched the 3rd trailer, and ok, NOW I want to see it.

Yep, this trailer has converted my doubts.

I agree this new trailer is better. The others were sinking down the Dark Knight Rises trailer hole of how THIS. MOVIE. IS. IMPORTANT. Finally some Super heroics.

You had fifty years of idealist superheroes. Our turn.

Steve Rogers doesn’t want to kill anybody. He just doesn’t like bullies.

Good trailer. It’s got 'splosions. 'Splosions always make a trailer better. If I was going to whine about anything it would be the grimace on Supe’s face as he lifts or holds a steel structure. The Superman I know has super strength and wouldn’t be grimacing. Unless grimacing means something different on Krypton.
