Until two and a half years ago, I used to live in the Portland metro area. I remembered earlier tonight about an arcade there that devoted itself entirely to arcade games from the 1970s and 1980s. After looking up their website and finding out that they had moved to a larger location, I also discovered something on their news section of their webpage, and I’m not sure if I should be impressed, amused, or if I should repress the urge to yell “NERD!”
The news section apparently updates once a month, so if you’re reading this OP long after it has been posted, it’ll be out of date. For that reason, I’ll quote an excerpt from the article:
As of this writing, the guy has now been playing for 13 hours and 6 minutes straight, and has amassed a score of 84,386,736.
There’s a charity fundraiser involved, which has raised a modest amount.
Since I no longer live in Portland anymore, I can’t pop by there and check to see if this is for real or not. Has any Portland-area Dopers seen this guy on the news lately? Anyone volunteer to visit there and confirm this?
And for the rest of you, your thoughts on this guy? Personally, I think this bit from the webpage is priceless:
This is so not out-of-character for him. The picture says nay, but it would have been cool to see him playing for forty-eight hours in the completely accurate Boba Fett costume he made a few years ago.
Well, check the link now – GAME OVER, and he went for 54 hours and 10 minutes. But didn’t quite make it to the 300 million score. Final score: 283,779,000.
