Elsewhere in the news, God himself has intervened in a bitter dispute over a dog named Cindy.

“I went to the evangelist and said, ‘I got a problem. I got this dog, and I got to give the lawyer an amount of money. I want what God wants.’ He said, ‘Well, Sister, I’ll anoint and pray with you after services.’”
"I was down at the altar after services and everybody was praying and the Lord spoke to me and He said, ‘Fifty thousand.’ Then the evangelist came to me, looked me dead in the eye, stuck his finger at me, and said, ‘Fifty, Sister.’ "
At home that evening, Burgess itemized Cindy’s expenses for the next seven years, which is about how long the 8-year-old dog can expect to live, according to the American Kennel Club.
She figured that Cindy’s haircuts would cost $2,700 a year; veterinarian bills, $3,000; food and treats, $1,000; medicine and shampoo, $250; gas, minivan mileage and depreciation, $1,500. That totaled $8,450 a year. Multiplied by seven years, that equals $59,150.
“But the Lord said $50,000. I feel like it’s fair,” Burgess said. “I showed this piece of paper to Tom Dennard and, well, he like to swallow his teeth.”

“Cindy”, of course, is the ‘pet’ form of Cynthia, associated with the goddess Artemis.
