You have to understand the mentality of a Boxer. You can be carrying a guy out on a stretcher and he will be talking about how he really won the fight and how he can’t wait to get back in the ring for a rematch. They actually do think that way. They are so competitive and so sure of themself, that is just the way they think. I was a member of the best/most famous Boxing gym in NYC and got to know several of the Boxers there. This really is how most of them think.
The two commonly used systems for professional boxing were the Round (or Point) system, and the 10 Point Must system. They are very much equivalent systems in practice, and 10 Point Must is used almost exclusively now.
In the Round system you get 1 point for winning a round. In variations you can have additional points added or removed based on fouls or knockdowns. In the 10 Point Must system the winner of a round gets 10 points. If the round is a draw the loser gets 10 points also, otherwise the loser is given 9 or less points. By tradition, and sometimes regulation the loser of the round is given 9 points if they are not knocked down, 8 points if knocked down once, 7 points if knocked down twice, etc. Different governing bodies can make specific regulations, but generally nothing prevents judges from giving the loser of a round as few points as he wants. After all that points may be taken away due to fouls.
The differences and variations in the systems mean little because judges are free to score a round for either boxer at their own discretion.
Ok, then how come under the current system rounds that are clearly one sided to the victor still get scored 10-9?
What was the point of the two cheerleaders behind Mayweather at his press conference? I’m usually the last guy to say that women are being objectified, but those two women were, well, being objectified. They had absolutely no purpose other than to say, “Look at these hot bitches I’ve got with me.”
Do you mean ring girls? They are at weigh ins too…
The wife-beater has defeated the anti-gay anti-choice politician!
Yay?

It’s called a hero’s tragic flaw. Never you mind.
I’ve seen too many similar outcomes wherein thw aggressor was awarded the win. There was nothing convincing about mayweather’s victory.
What about the part where he landed twice as many punches as Pacquiao?
Because it’s primarily intended to be a 1 point per round system. Judges occasionally score a round 10-8 when one fighter seems to dominate the other in the round, but it’s controversial. First there is the problem explaining how one fighter can be so dominant in a round but can’t knock his opponent down. And then there will always be a suspicion that a judge is showing bias when he gives a fighter an extra point.
Not when they reviewed it. Pacquiao landed more. But i’ll forgive the judges since they can’t see it in slowmo.
