Well, yeah, but sometimes the cards are bad enough to never put any money in the pot, and if you only lose the blinds as they go around the table you can last long enough for half the players to go out first. But sitting there folding almost every hand was just driving me nuts.
I’m still kinda new at this. Is it considered bad form to complain about one’s luck?
I don’t want to hear it. Consecutive hands I run into pocket kings to drop me below blind levels, and get finished off by 3/5 off when I’m holding A/7. Dealer decided I smelled funny or something apparently.
I had one great hand. A full house showing on the board, I went all-in, and three people called. My pocket threes gave me a better full house and I took the pot.
Ten minutes later, on my second best hand of the night, I went out. Damn you and your flushes, Aholibah.
I think I was in third when I left. Anyway here are the standings:
1 Gangster Octopus 76.2
2 Oslo Ostragoth 75.0
3 Aholibah 69.7
4 Kyyrewyyoae 69.0
5 nesta 62.7
6 Nanook of the North 62.7
7 elucidator 60.6
8 Robot Arm 60.4
9 Asterion 60.0
10 Capn Pitt 57.9
11 Duke of Rat 57.2
12 Miss Take 51.4
13 Yeticus Rex 44.4
14 Only Mostly Dead 41.8
15 Dag Otto 35.2
I was really, really irked that I called your boat against my better judgment. That was a brilliant play on your part RA. And now, maybe you’ll stop going all-in against me on the river when I’ve check-called the flop and the turn. Which would make me sad.
I had two moments of sheer stupidity last night – one was the call on RA’s all-in, and the second was putting the Cap all-in when there were three of us left and I had AJ (I think – maybe it was KJ) and the flop came QQx. Naturally he had a queen (the rotter), and I enwealthened him to dangerous levels. Also stupid was banking almost everything on an 85o with a 68K flop, but that worked out for me, since it turned out Cap banked everything on a 6.
Given my record of staggeringly consistent inconsistency (12, 12-last, 1, 14-last, 1), I’m amazed and delighted to have squeaked my way into 3rd in the standings. I should be back down to double-digits after next week’s dismal finish.
If I can’t be the winner, I’m glad that Aholibah is. I knew I was trashed when you got that flush and drew a little bit ahead. All I heard in my head was Teddy KGB: “All your hopes and dreams, dashed. Down zee f–king drain.”
As for me, I’m well on my way to mediocrity now!!! Look out asterion you’re next!
Moreover, I’m thrilled to have moved in front of Duchess of Guinea Pigs’ Old Man. F’r.
I try to pay attention to whether someone needs two pocket cards to make their hand, or just one. The table was something like AJTxx and I had the KQ. I figured my hand looked like two-pair or three-of-a-kind and the straight would be a surprise.
All-in with an ace-high straight isn’t too bad of an exit. And I finished up a nickel at the no-limit table afterwards. Not my worst night.
Hey, playing in a local tournament tonight. Way out of my league entry fee-wise but a buddy is staking me. Should be about 50-60 people with 10% of the field cashing. Wish me luck!
