I’m currently embroiled in a $5 R&A at PP. I’ve invested about $26–just had over half my stack drawn off by QJ against my AA. He flopped two-pair, I knew he had it, but I had to call his all-in and see if I could hit lucky. Didn’t.
But we’re on break, the rebuy period is over, and now I must marshal my fair-sized stack into something awe-inspiring. Somehow.
I keep trying the 99-cent tourney at Pokertropolis. Still haven’t finished in the money.
After a long dry spell, I got dealt pocket kings. I was down to about 1,100, one of the other players made a big bet (but not huge) before the flop, I called. 2-4-8. He bets about half my stack. I figure he’s got a pocket pair, but lower than mine. I go all in, he calls.
I was exactly right. Pocket tens. And he made three-of-a-kind on the turn to knock me out.
I am playing a six dollar 10 seater at bodog and it is down to me and another guy. I have about a 3 to 1 chip advantage. I get QTo in the big blind. He raises I re-raise him all-in and he calls. He has Q6o, whoo! Only one live card, which he promptly pairs on the flop and I lose the hand. OK, now he is slightly ahead of me.
Next hand,
I get KTo and before the flop I end up being all in. Turn the cards. Crap, he has AJo, but at least I have two live cards. And a dream flop…4TT…a set. Now bodog is not like pokertropolis, when there is an all in with no more betting it doesn’t do one of those quick, let’s get the hand over with. It takes a couple of beats to show you the turn and then the river. Which is what happens here, I am just waiting to get my chips, especially after the turn comes up rags. EXCEPT…EXCEPT, the river comes up rags…or not! There are four freaking spades …runner runner on the turn and river…on the table and he has a spade…I don’t…and I am out in second place. From a 3 to 1 chip leader to loser in two hands. Booooooooo!!!
Well, 14th out of 54. Not bad. Top 6 were in the money. So I was nowhere near that, but still not bad. I played pretty tight early which paid off handsomely later as the post-flop raise made everybody drop (and I was charging them to get to the flop). However, I started to stall a bit and the other guys started to get big with knockout money. So I decided to put myself out on a horrible play. Let’s just say that I was playing the player rather than the cards.
This guy had to be about 367 years old. He’d been bluffing at sizeable pots for quite a while (though he did take two people out (KQo and QQ with his piddling pocket 88, which of course he promptly quadded by the turn). He’s a sizeable stack at this point, while I’m getting toward the low end of middle (6 people at our table). I get ATs, call his reasonable raise to get to the flop. J-J-Q rainbow. He puts me all in immediately. Me, being the idiot that I am, think it over and become convinced that he’s just trying to blow me out. Yep, I’m convinced (absolutely convinced, though it didn’t keep my heart from pounding in my ears) that I’m going to outkicker him on those jacks and screw it who knows about the gutshot. So I go all in. We flip 'em…he’s got my nightmare…KJ. Of course the turn has to give me a bastardly glimmer of hope with a 9. The river…the 4th jack. Yep, this guy quadded twice within 45 minutes. Never should have been in the hand though. Regardless, it was a lot of fun and a lot of free food.
Hey, Cap, I went out of my $5 rebuy in 107th* on AT suited. It’s a devil hand, that’s what. I have to try and recall the words of wisdom in one of my many poker tomes – suited cards just aren’t that much better than they would be if they were unsuited. It’s a little edge, not a major improvement, in the hand value. Why do I find that so hard to hang onto in the moments when I need it most??
*107th was good enough to get me into the money, but I still lost about $6 on the venture. Ah well.
Yeah? We’ll see about that! Me and Yeti might just upset your little scheme… We’ve been battling it out between ourselves, I sure don’t see any reason to let you tag along
Congrats to Nesta. Man, if there is one person I don’t want to be heads up against, It’s Nesta. I just can’t get a read on him, except for “I’m going to crush you, mother effer!”
Well, another near-cellar dwelling performance by me…thanks to Capn for taking the bullet for me this time. I’m questioning my play and tactics here, so out of frustration, I signed up for the 8pm $5+.50 Limit Tourn and after 3 hours of play and 60 other players, I smacked them all down (including our beloved Aholibah…sorry Toots ) and I won the damn thing with pocket 7s and another 7 on the flop to the other guy’s Queens with the raises and reraises flying by at light speed on every round of betting.
$106.75…Maybe I should just go out early every week…
Congrats, Yeit! (And you can just stuff your sorries in a sack, Mister). With the chip lead you had when I finally fell on my sword, I would have been pissed if you hadn’t come in first.
