Marek Malik: Fantastic Goal to end SO Marathon

Last night the NY Rangers played the Washington Capitals. The went 15 rounds into a shootout, until Marek Malik ended the game with this outrageous beauty. Heck, I don’t necessarily approve of the shootout, but that would’ve been a helluva a thing to see.

I’m not a fan of the shootout format either, but that was impressive. I read about the goal, but did not see it before following your link. It was a pretty gutsy shot, but I doubt he had much to lose by trying it out. It’s good to see the Blueshirts in first place, not that I’ve been following the NHL too much this year, but it’s nice they’re finally winning.

I still think one of the best shots I’ve ever seen was when Owen Nolan called his shot in the 96 (97? 98?) All-Star game against Dominik Hasek.

As an aside, does anyone know what is going on with the NHL shield? The letters “NHL” used to go on an angle from upper left to lower right, and now go from lower left to upper right.

Bettman changed it at the beginning of the year. Another one of his “genius” moves. Why tamper with it?

Anyways, I saw that goal out of the corner of my eye on highlights. Marek Malik would’ve been the last player on the Rangers that I thought could pull that off. Actually no, that would be Kasparaitis. But still, what an amazing goal.

I didn’t see the goal until just now, but I had the games box score on refresh while I was checking the unaired Wings game last night. Hard to argue with the shootout when you see a quality goal like that.

Because it was ugly. Not that it’s much different now, but let’s be honest; it makes no difference at all, really.

It was great. At the 15th round and as a #5 d-man, Malik had nothing to loose. The goalies were getting tired so any type of shot that was going to change the attacking angle would be much more effective than it would have been at the start of the shootout.

I don’t have a problem with the shootout so long as it stays in the regular season. Playoff games should be played out.

Besides, the fans love it.

Oh, it doesn’t make any difference at all. But I just don’t see the point of changing especially since it doesn’t make sense now.

Old

New

It’s unnatural for it to be going up and to the right. Down and to the left is how it should be. Like a sash. I don’t mind the colour change but it’s just wrong to the eyes this way.
