Marilyn Manson: Columbine Shooting Tanked My Career

That really sucks ‘Marilyn’. Sometimes playing the masses and hoping they understand your deeper message doesn’t go over so well.

I like you and everything, but what the fuck did you expect?

Uh, a link or something might help.

http://www.msn.com/en-us/music/news/marilyn-manson-columbine-shooting-tanked-my-career/ar-AAsjCpv?OCID=ansmsnnews11

And while I’m re-reading the link I somehow missed above (I would have sworn I had it in the original - weird), fuck you MSN for your editorializing - “While Manson’s image and music certainly can’t be faulted for Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold’s deadly rampage, his claim that Columbine tanked his career is irresponsible and erroneous.”

I didn’t and don’t see an “Editorial” byline in that story.

Report the facts, not what I should think about them, thank you very much people who presume to be reporters but can’t help putting in their own thoughts on how I should read their story. Assholes (And yes, it goes in both directions, right or left’s reporting).

Maybe this should have been in the pit. Apologies.

what do you mean, what did he expect? I’m not sure what he’s supposed to have done which would make him bear some responsibility here.

Yeah–where else can we go for objective, in-depth journalism if not the Entertainment Section of MSN.com?

Huh. I always figured it was his shit “music” that tanked his career. And fuck him! He had a good run, made lots of money.

If you want a 40 year career, don’t be a novelty act.

(And before you pile on, I just wanna say, I was watching MM before he ever had a record, at Club Rock in Vegas. He played there all the time. Novelty Act. Period.)

if you don’t like the genre that’s fine, but as far as his music goes it’s hardly “shit.”

Marilyn Manson now going door to door trying to shock people:

It’s clearly a critic’s opinion. Critics don’t have to slap “editorial” on their columns; that’s inherent in them.

That isn’t something new to the Internet. Newspaper and magazine art sections have been running critical commentary like this since the 19th century. How have you not noticed?

I didn’t care for his music, but never considered it shit. We did however refer to him as “The Recycling Center”.
He reused tons of schtick that came before him and targeted an audience that would quickly outgrow his show…kinda like New kids on the block or muppet babies.

So, I agree with you except the shit comment. “Novelty act” is totally spot on.

Since his first record was released in 1994, that would mean sometime before then, aye, Gato? So he has had a career for at least 24 years now… closing in on 40 with his “novelty act”, eh.

Yeah, early 90’s. Used to play at Club Rock, there on Sirius (turned into an Italian café or something) and met his bass player and original drummer (he told me some pretty good stories). I was at his “record release” party there. But to see another band.

But that’s my point. He’s had a really good run. 24 years is a pretty awesome career in music, don’t ya think? What is he bitching about?

Yes, I think 24 years in music is awesome. I don’t think he was bitching about anything, really. Just talking about his life.

I just figured Manson was Ozzy Osbourne or Alice Cooper for the 90s: shock rockers appealing to angsty rebellious teens.

IMO, Osbourne and Cooper both have more and better musical chops than Manson.
