Marilyn Manson is 40. HAH!

Thought I would share this: Brian Warner is officially elderly today. The shock rocker antichrist that was blamed for Columbine is 40.

Being a fan of the likes of Korn, NIN, and Rob Zombie I know a good number of people that loved him. Those people were all severely mocked today. Soon he’ll be using a walker and making fun of his fans would be wrong.

If only I could go back to the real good ol’ days, those innocent ‘90s…

Actually, I thought he was a lot older.

Hmmm… Could you reserve the word “elderly” for people who are significantly older than me? Thank you very much.

Yeah! Elderly starts at, oh, let’s say about 60, but I could change my mind about that in a few years.

How the hell did he get blamed for Columbine? Eric and Dylan openly hated Marilyn Manson, as did all the metal heads I knew (I’m same age/same high school class as the Columbine kids.) They were KMFDM fans IIRC. Manson was for posers, even back in the '90s. He got radio play and had videos on TRL for god’s sake.

(Not that the Columbine shitheads were “cool” by any stretch of the imagination, but blaming Marilyn Manson is factually incorrect on top of being a gross, gross oversimplication of their shitheadery.)

Which puts you one year ahead of me and you should remember that a lot people were blaming him (and ‘Matrix’ and everything else).

You should also realize that I was mocking the people that thought he was EVUL and the people that liked that crap. 40 is elderly–this wasn’t a tip off?

Hmmph. I’ll be 40 this year and I can still rock out* when I need to. [scowls at OP and folds his arms over his chest]
*I mean, given the right time and place, and if I think it sends the right message, you know.

And not wake up sore?

I apologize to everyone over 39 for this thread.

Yeah, you definitely hit the wrong chord with that “elderly” comment. It makes you appear to be young (nothing wrong with that,) careless and uninformed.

Never mind. I just realized you were kidding. Sorry.

I’ve been waking up sore, or with someone else who was sore, since I was 16. But that’s a different story. :stuck_out_tongue:

Sorry, my post wasn’t directed towards you. It was just kind of a soapbox thing. Asking the world, you know? I well remember him getting blamed and it was just mind-bogglingly, frustratingly clueless at the time and still is.

Edit: And on the main topic of the thread, I thought he was older too. Figured he was at least early/mid 30s back when he was really popular, over 10 years ago.

Well, sorry then, guess I’m still a little touchy too… carry on.

Bah, unless you begin playing music in your preferred genre as a sprout, one Does not rock until one’s mid to late twenties at least; one practices. Most don’t hit their stride until their thirties.

What’s that, young whippersnapper? I couldn’t hear you over the sound of my CLUE.

I used to rock and roll all night and party ev-er-y day. Then it was every other day. Now I can barely find a day or two a month in which to get funky. [/obSimpsonsReference]

Sending this to Cafe Society.

You’ll have to forgive Joe Lieberman and the TV news for not knowing that. They were too busy PROTECTING AMERICA’S INNOCENT YOUTH to spend time learning what they were protecting them from. Also, you forgot FIRST-PERSON SHOOTERS! Won’t somebody please think of the children!

Phht. It wasn’t rock stars. It wasn’t video games. It wasn’t even atheism.

It was trench coats. I blame trench coats.

And Leonardo DeCaprio.

So, so true, and something so few get, it seems like. Sure, you might see a couple of pretty faces out there who manage to snag a record deal at a very young age (and musically, I’d consider anything under 25 “very young”), but true Rocking can only come with experience. I can remember being about eighteen and being shocked when I realized how “old” all of the great musicians* I listened to were.

And I don’t care how what age Marilyn Manson is. He’s like the lame haunted house in the mall parking lot, trying to sell itself as something scary and shocking and only being considered such by those too sheltered to know better and little old ladies.

*That period of time when I listened obsessively to Savage Garden is known as the “musical era we choose to not hold against Caerie because puberty is confusing.”

Manson = Re-heated Alice Cooper

There will be another one along soon as they can figure out how to scrape money from the next generation of clueless kiddie posers.
