Marina Sirtis is a complete idiot

Tonight I watched the show Politically Incorrect for the first time only becuase Greg Graffin of the band Bad Religion was a guest on the show. The night’s topic was a book on the “feminizing of boys”. The book took the position that feminism has gone to far and that in some cases it has become detrimental to young males, especially in a school setting. The other guests were the author of the book (sorry I can’t recall her name), former MTV VJ Julie Brown (not downtown), and the ignorant Marina Sirtis (some actor from Star Trek).

During the course of the show Sirtis took a very extreme viewpoint, and went as far as to claim that society may be “evolving” into a system where women are dominant over men, as opposed to “evolving” into a system of equality. Sirtis compounded her ridiculous views by rudely interrupting the other guests in order to state her ignorant ideas, and by not even listening to the others at all.

Even though I disagree with almost all of Sirtis’ “points”, they are for the most part not why I consider her to be an idiot. Some of her more extreme points definitely reflected her ignorance, but her rudeness and refusal to carry a logical argument, as well as her obvious belief that she was right no matter what, were the factors that truly showed her lack of intellegence.

Throughout the show Sirtis repeatedly made an ass of herself, especially when she tried to pin the abuse of wives by some men, on men in general, instead of realizing that only the minority of men who abuse their wives can be held accountable for the abuse. Graffin refuted her point by using the example of women marrying men only for financial reasons as another incorrect generalization. Sirtis simply responded with “that’s ridiculous”, and never backed up that argument or any of her arguments in anything resembling a logical manner.

Because of Sirtis’ rudeness and all her interruptions I wasn’t able to hear much at all from Greg Graffin, who happens to hold a Ph.D in Evolutionary Biology (he is also somewhat of an expert in the field of sociology wich at least somewhat relates to the topic being discussed), but I was able to hear much more than enough from the actor Sirtis who graduated form some acting school (irrevelant to the topic at hand), and has been acting her whole life in such sweet shows as Star Trek the Next Generation.

Marina Sirtis is a complete and utter idiot.

Sounds like the mystery guest is Christina Hoff Sommers, writer of The War Against Boys. I almost bought that book the other day.

PI can be very entertaining but it’s certainly not a good example of intelligent and fair debate. Remember, it’s designed to be ABC’s answer to Jay and Dave. But still, it is very easy to get frustrated watching celebrities malign a discussion of major issues.

I’d imagine that an ungodly number of Trekkies use Sirtis as masturbation material. On a Federation ship that had an almost universal dress code, her character’s uniform included a low neck line and a high hemline for some reason. She probably goes to Sci-Fi conventions only to have her rack stared at and drooled on by very lonely men.

That may slightly skew her perception of intergender relationships from the norm.

I personally enjoy PI half the time, the other half I think it’s pathetic.

When it’s going good, when there’s a relatively “tame” issue at hand, and the guests aren’t spouting off on some emotion-filled and factless rhetoric, you can actually get some nice insights. However, more often than not, it always turns into a shout-fest between people who aren’t always known for their brains (rather, their faces). Someday, I’d like to be on that show, just so I can destroy my opponent with the slightest of grins and a furrowed brow.

::ahem:: Fuckers!

PI hasn’t been worthy of it’s own title since it left Comedy Central. Pay attention and you’ll find that every once in a while, someone will say something that is politically incorrect. But don’t blink or you’ll miss it.

Damn. Now ya got me thinking bout Counselor Troi. How’m I gonna get any work done today?
Maybe I’ll have to start a Counselor Troi vs Seven of Nine mudwrasslin thread.
Excuse me, gotta hit the head … (Or isn’t this the “What do men do in there?” thread?)

But I always masturbate to the image of Dr. Beverley Crusher.

Greg Gaffin was on ‘Politically Incorrect’? And I wasn’t informed? AAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!

Actually, blunt, Mr. Gaffin’s educational credentials are a Bachelors degree in Anthropology, Master of Science degree in Geology from UCLA and is working on a PhD in Zoology at Cornell.

Wasn’t Dr Crusher hot? But after the fifth facelift…

Did BM have Sirtis on his show to listen to her or to look at her boobs? Did you watch the show to listen, etc?

Ah Geez…7 of 9 is Bee-uuuu-teeeee-ful.

7 of 9 vs Lt. Com Troi??

I gotta go with superior borg technology here.

Her bum is wonderful. I get tingly just thinking about her.
Buddy Hackett Buddy Hackett …Hackett…hackett…hac…ah shit

this is a funny thread. Marina Sirtis was never known for her inteligence. She was a pretty face, and of course, she’s losing some of that beauty, but i’m pretty sure her boobage is one of the main reasons she was there. too bad i missed it, Greg Gaffin and all, Bad Brains is one of my favorite bands.

Go with it Graeme. Resistance is futile.

The most pathetic thing was, Deanna actually looked sexier after they put her in a standard uniform (compare Ezri Dax). I’m interested to see what Seven will look like once they put her in one too.

Aaaaack! I wish i’d seen that PI ep! not only is Bad Religion one of my favorite bands, but Greg Graffin is right next to Henry Rollins in my “Rock Singers I Most Want To Shag” list.

The only worthy guest on PI was Joan Rivers. In fact, she should be booked at minimum once a week.

(asked in a small voice) Can I just do both the Counselor and 7 of 9?

:: wanders off in a harmone induced fog ::

No you won’t. You’ll get to see Bill Maher call them an idiot for the next 10 minutes.

It’s spreading already Muahahahahahhahhhahha!!

Sua

Just ignore her absurd opinions and focus on her assets, the tah tahs.

Would I risk getting undressed in front of Seven of Nine?

<Seven of Nine takes one look. “That is irrelevant,” she says.>

No…I think maybe not.

Somewhat off topic, but this came to mind this a.m. while walking the dog.

My 12 1/2 yr old daughter was recently in a dance recital. Her costume was a grey unitard (one piece tights and leotard). She is very fit and, if I say so myself, quite pretty. When I saw her in the unitard the first thing I thought was, “Hey, that looks just like something Troi or 7 would wear.”
My daughter was embarrassed to wear it - considered it too revealing. My beautiful wife’s response was, “Hell, if I had a body like that, I’d never wear anything BUT unitards!”
