Marine throws puppy off a cliff

I saw a video linked on Youtube labelled “US troops shoot Iraqi kids” and couldn’t believe it. I followed the link and found this. It’s easily the greatest thing Ive seeen in the last week. This is the definition of “warms the very cockles of my heart.” (don’t worry, nobody actually gets shot. I have no idea why it’s titled like that.)

Sorry, I just needed to share something that would put some good feelings back with the soldiers. I know it helped me.

They definitely shouldn’t give up their day job.

(I’m guessing either someone was trying to ensure outraged folks would watch the video and then see that not everything in Iraq is blood and death or that they were using ‘shoot’ to mean ‘tape’ or ‘shoot video’…probably the former explanation is the correct one)

Monroe family threatened over video of Marine tossing pup.

I find it extremely ironic that people out raged over the (purported) death of a puppy would threaten the mans family (I assume with violence if not death and dismemberment). I’m having to pick chucks of my irony meter off the ground and clear the smoke at this point…and this was the new deluxe sooper dooper strong irony meter that has withstood posts by such notables as Der Trihs and Gonzomax…

Asians eat babies? Again people will believe anything. It’s fake -Snopes Link

IIRC, those were quickly revealed to be fakes.

And oddly enough, most of the time they would be right. Funny 'ol world isn’t it?

Just don’t read the comments… :frowning:

I’m not sure how Occam’s Razor applies to this situation. Which is a more far-fetched explanation: that the Marines were stupid and cruel enough to kill a puppy on camera, or that they took the trouble to fake killing a puppy? To me, both scenarios seem equally plausible (or equally implausible).

Words to live by on Youtube (and Digg… and, well everywhere on the internets).

So if the other Marine didn’t know he was going to toss the dog, why was he filming?

It seems pretty clear that the whole thing was staged. The only question is whether it’s a “snuff” film or not.

Like other people have been saying the dog’s yelps seem awfully clear and loud given that the rest of the audio sounds like an average video camera.

On another bboard, I read a person who claims to be familiar with dogs state that a dog wouldn’t yelp or bark while falling through the air like that – that it’s difficult enough just to breath.

For what it may be worth, a few years ago, I had the unfortunate experience of seeing a puppy accidentally jump to its death. As I recall, it didn’t bark or yelp at all while falling. There was just silence followed by a nauseating thump.

That would be an excellent point if there were legions of religiously zealous puppies plotting in dark rooms and dank caves to kill Americans where ever they found them.

Of course not, but why aren’t you attacking the original assertion to which that responded: “If the guy has been killing people for two to four years, perhaps his ability to feel that much empathy is a little worn down?” Where is your righteous indignation about whether every Marine has always been killing people for two to four years? Maybe the fact is that there are a few fucked up Marines, just like there are a few fucked up people in most large groups. Maybe the particular Marine has never killed a person. Maybe he didn’t even kill a puppy. Maybe you could jump in with knees jerking before it has become a political expediency for you.

What kind of sick mind thinks this is funny?

Thanks, mswas, but I’m not going to click on that link. I think I’ll go reread the Lava story I linked to upthread.

Ouch.

I heard she swam away with only a bloody nose for her troubles. I personally thought it was hilarious when I saw it, of course when I saw it it said, “Fail”. I laughed because I could not think of anything that more clearly said failure.

I did, actually.

She’s a grown woman taking part in a dangerous sport. Why am I supposed to cringe when something bad inevitably happens?
