Mark Twain was right; God is a malign thug. (Long and personal)

For the 3rd fucking time Jam Shady, where do your beliefs on Hell come from? Do you think God told you himself? Did your parents teach you? Were they spelled out in your morning bowl of Alpha-Bits?

Avoid this question again, and I will have no choice but assume you are making this shit up to incite people, which qualifies you as a troll. If a moderator agrees, you will be banned from the board.

I can’t say that I’m terribly worried. I can take it, I’m the goatse.cx guy!

Now run along, my little true believer… :wally

update
I just spoke with our doctor; it’s definitely Parkinson’s, but apparently we’ve caught it fairly early and he seems to think that medication and physical rehab will help. They’ve moved her to the hospital rehab center and she’s spending most of today being evaluated and tested to see what can be done about the falling. Part of the problem is complications caused by the diabetes; whenever she stands up her blood pressure drops, which causes her to get dizzy and affects her balance. Couple this with the loss of motor control caused by the arthritis, neuropathy and Parkinson’s, and it’s no wonder she can’t walk well.

How much longer until she’s released depends on how well she responds to the therapy and how much therapy she may be able to do at home. The doctor said to talk to him again tomorrow afternoon, after he’s consulted with the therapist.
Oh, and after J_S’s latest example of reasoned thought and compassion, I did a little search; from his initial posts in this thread and this thread, last June he is a muslim whose sole source of religious thought is the Qur’an. I find it interesting that he apparently registered in order to post to the first thread and after his last post in the second thread did not post again until he felt it necessary to berate me and Anaximenes for our lack of respect for God, and that in his posts in this thread he made no effort to correct the presumption that he speaking from a Christian perspective. (Except for the cryptic “Who said anything about the Bible?” in response to Revtim’s second request for the source of his information on Hell.)

But I’ve wasted enough of my time on this sanctimonious :wally

Venoma - So you’re saying if you had a bad day and denied the existence of God and called him all sorts of names, he’d understand and forgive you? I think not!

Drastic - No, my belief is that those who deny or question God, will be punished for it! Simple as!

Revtim - My beliefs come from various different sources! What? You think they’re so different to what you’ve been brought to believe?

Anaximenes - I’d love to see you in the afterlife, remember to look me up!

LurkMeister - I’m surprised you actually bothered and managed to find those threads, at the speed at which this site operates. I re-registered to post those threads in response to an article on the straight dope which I believed missed out a major step! And who said my sole source of info is the Qur’an? And where did any ask me if I was christian? The notion of God and Hell is not limited to christianity! And I came back because the site I usually frequent was have server maintenance, so I came over here to see what other crap everyone is spouting off! I find “witnessing” a brilliant excuse. Because we can’t presume that heaven and hell exist, we’ll just pretend they won’t! No wonder the US breeds ignorance! I thought only George Bush was a complete wacko, but it seems like this is a common thing in the USA.

Everyone’s always trying to be PC! I read a thread a couple of days back about someone being worried about his brother being gay not because he thought it was wrong but because of others thinking that! OMG!!! It’s attitudes like that which corrupt and condem you all! Homosexuality IS wrong. God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve! How can anyone even contemplate it being right. It’s just screwed, but hey, we have to PC, so we’ll just say it’s OK! Yeah right, what a load of shit!

Anyways, I’ve had my say, and I’ve warned you all! I can just sit and laugh now as you’re all thrown into Hell. But of course, you don’t believe in it. So if you’re right, and there is no Hell, you die and that’s it! But if I’m right, you’ll have an eternity of pain and torment. Worth the risk? I don’t think so, but you seem to have made up your decisions!

Lurkmeister, you have my deepest sympathies, man. It’s hard to helplessly watch a loved one suffer. I’ve got a similar situation going on in my family right now, but this is your thread, so I’m just going to give you a virtual hug.

I wouldn’t sweat the troll; it’ll be banned by breakfast.

I hope so, because we’re running out of exclamation points.

I’d just like to thank His4ever for avoiding the trap of supporting Jam Shady’s evangelising even though they share core beliefs.

Your offering your compassion and good thoughts and prayers to Lurkmeister without commenting on either your own beliefs or those of others has cranked by repsect for you up a notch H4e.

I’m pleased to hear that you have a definitive and encouraging diagnosis LurkMeister. While it will take time to sort out the blood pressure problem and stabilise your wife’s diabetes, you have reason to be optimistic at this point.

Please pass our continued good wishes along to your wife - you both remain in our thoughts.

Heheheheheheheheheheh.
You’re right - why would I think that God would forgive anyone?
giggle fits

Ah yes, Pascal’s Wager. Your argument is quite old and decrepit. You seem to take quite a bit of glee in contemplating our eternity of pain and suffering. Kindly go fuck yourself.

That’s four times you dodged the question, troll. I can only assume that your sources are so ridiculous that you think mentioning them would show you to be an even bigger idiot. Take my word for it, that’s not possible; you’ve hit bottom. You might as well list the origins of that pure foolish drivel that you call your beliefs.

Drastic, I think you misunderstand the reason that Jesus supposedly cried out the words “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”. It was not because he was angered and felt abandoned by God. It illustrates that in spite of what has happened to him he will still sing praises. In those days people knew their Psalms so well, all you had to do was say the first line and you invoked the whole thing. “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” is actually the first line of Psalm 22 in which the tortured soul still worships God in the face of hardship and pledges his allegiance to him. The Psalm starts off questioning but ends up like this:

So I don’t think that means what you think it means. That god deserves no worship (whether he exists or not) as far as I’m concerned, but Jesus was not wavering in his loyalty. Many folks interpret that statement incorrectly. I went to Catholic school for 9 years so I had this stuff crammed down my throat.

Either way, re the op, if his not helping those who are suffering wasn’t enough of a reason to not respect this supposedly omnipotent being, him actively ordering murder, genocide, and rape is reason aplenty. Plus, look at how so many of his followers like Jam here behave. With animosity, hatred, and judgemental/condescending positions on the morality of others. I’ll pass on the eternity in heaven if I’ll have to be with folks like that while the kind and beautiful people I know (who don’t believe in any mythology) burn for ever. I’ll second the OP. If God exists as portrayed in that book: Fuck him.

DaLovin’ Dj

The LurkMistress (I’m getting tired of constantly referring to her as “my wife” as if that her sole identity) is in rehab and taking medication for the Parkinson’s. Her PCP was ready to authorize her for release today, but Rehab though it might be best if she had a few more days of inpatient rehab before sending her home. I think they want to build up her control and leg strength to lessen the chances of her falling. They’re also going to set her up for outpatient rehab, although they’re going to try and keep that within the limits of her insurance coverage.

It’s just as well she won’t be home this weekend; it’ll give me a chance to clean house, get rid of the dancing girls, etc.

When I visited her last night I told her about the responses I’d been receiving on this thread. She appreciates your good thoughts and prayers. One of these days maybe I’ll get my act together enough to set her up with her own computer (it’ll need to have a big screen and a large font, and maybe some sort of voice system to be of any use to her) so she can go online herself. If nothing else, it’ll give her something to do during the day besides watch her soaps and talk to the cats.

Now I know why I stopped visiting! Everyone here is soo bigoted into their aethist views that they’ll forget everything when it comes to proving a religion, yet they’ll believe everything in an instant when it comes to bashing one! Double standards!

Let’s go onto the wager and disprove it’s fallacies:
1 - The Jewish, Christian and Islamic God are all one and the same, and the only one which promises entry into heaven! There arn’t “many” of them!
2 - True, it doesn’t install belief, that’s where you come in! But just because it doesn’t install belief doesn’t mean he doesn’t exist!
3 - Wrong, everyone will be judged according to their own life as an individual! And not what the masses did!
4 - There arn’t too many possible alternatives! God will punish you if you disobey him and disbelieve in him! Hair colour, skin colour are obviously meaningless to him as well since he created it all! That’s soooo unbelievable simple!
5 - Death is the only conclusion to life on this earth! Is there anything else?
6 - Not at all. To believe in God is to accept his supremecy, and impledly, obey his commands! You can’t have one without the other!

Come on now, that was really basic! You’ve put up the worst arguments going!

dalovindj - Muslims do not believe that ever happened! It was someone else on the cross Christians may believe it happened, but they also believe (now) that homosexuality is OK, whereas they didn’t before! That’s weird, normal men and women managed to change their religion to suit them! Hmmm. And if he was God why would he cry out God hast forsaken me? It doesn’t make sense and implies he’s an ordinary man! Make your mind up! Kindness and beauty are also subjective things, and it’s the man upstairs who’s opinion counts! Religious people can also be kind and beautiful, the two do not contradict!

KurkMeister - Dunno if you know but I think W2K actually comes with software built in to read out whatever’s on the screen! Also, if you want to increase the font size on your screen, you can do this through the view->text size settings in IE, and if you want to increase it more, drop the resolution of your monitor (so it makes everything bigger!)

Una has been testing voice recognition software over at the Unaboard. If you like, I can hunt up the thread in which she evaluates it LurkMeister.

I hope we can persuade Polycarp to come over to the “dark side”. Imagine sharing Heaven with Jam Shady and His4ever - talk about eternal torment.

Thanks, reprise. I had looked into voice recognition software a few years ago, and IIRC the major problem was that they all required the user to read several paragraphs of prepared text to “program” the system. I wasn’t sure how well that would work for someone who can’t see well enough to read the text.

Jam Shady, I’m currently using W98, and had never thought of upgrading to W2K or XP because I’d heard too many complaints about them from other users. Also, until last year I was runnning on a 120mh Pentium with 28M RAM, which was just barely capable of handing the W95 I was using at the time.

I had decided it would be easier to get a second computer for her and just have it programmed for the larger font and lower resolution rather than make us both go through the “change user” feature. I’m currently trying to decide whether it would be easier (and cheaper) to upgrade my old system or buy her a low-grade new one; a few months ago I priced some that would be adequate for her expected usage for $5-600.00.

“So you say you believe in one God? So do the demons in hell, and they tremble with fear!”–James 2:19

And now that makes five times the troll refuses to mention even one source of his beliefs. Still waiting, Jam Shady.

I don’t think 120MHz and 28Mb RAM would be enough for W2K, but in my personal experience (and I have quite a bit with M$ OS’s) W2K is by far the best (very very rarely experience a crash, but you have to learn how to use it properly, it’s not a “Home OS”) followed by W98SE. WinMe is the worst, followed by (IMHO) WinXP!

gobear - There is a distinct difference! The devil knows that God exists, humans can’t prove it - that’s where faith comes into it! All the other demons were created for Hell, that’s their home! And hell was created for man who disobeys God!

Revtim - As with every aethist I’ve met, you conveniently miss out the part where I mentioned it. I have various different sources, including religious texts, speakers, and from what I conclude using my own perception and judgement. In either case too many to list! Why do you care, what do you intend to disprove?
