The Wolcott is in midtown, which doesn’t really have on-street parking. The Olcott is on the Upper West Side which is much more residential and has on-street parking. It’s about 40 blocks (2 miles or a short subway ride) between them. If you really want to save money (at the cost of time and irritation), you can park on the UWS and get down to the Wolcott by subway/cab/etc.

Another option, if you don’t have lot of stuff with you: drop your car in a neighborhood where there is onstreet parking, like Billdo’s or mine (I’m in Chelsea), and then take the subway to your hotel. Or even a cab.
Opal … we just made reservations at the Hotel Pennsylvania; weeknights only ran 99.95 a night and 109.95 for the weekend nights. They also have valet parking where you can stash your car for $35 a day. The rooms are kinda dinky, but if you’re not planning on being there much anyway, it’s not bad.

Opal may I suggest parking in New Jersey (free at many stations) and taking New Jersey Tranist into NYC and then subways and busses from there?

As for a major venue where everyone can fit in-- is anyDoper a faculty member at a university with a club? It’s been my experience that most of the tweed-jacket and/or spiked hair set tend to abandon their clubs by 8. 9 at the latest.

Okay, add Sakura and Mrs. Dave-Guy to the Saturday evening list. I know my wife isn’t a member of the Board, but she’s met and hosted more Dopers than a lot of actual Dopers, so she feels entitled. I’ve made her promise not to interfere with my flirting and gam-ogling, though. I may be there stag on Friday night, but I dunno yet.
In addition the MegaDopefests we have had in January for the past three years, we periodically have smaller Dopefests and other gatherings in New York. The approximate attendance figures for the biggies have been:
January 2001: 50 people
January 2002: 65 people
January 2003: 75 people
