Married actors playing married characters

When married actors play married characters, do they were their own wedding band or a “prop” ring?

I can only guess that it depends on the type of rings they have and the type of characters they’re playing.

That is, when William Daniels and Bonnie Bartlett were playing an aristocratic doctor and his wife on “Saint Elsewhere,” their regular rings would probably look just fine on the characters they played. But if they were appearing in a revival of “1776” as John and Abigail Adams, their current rings would probably look out of place.

Or, when Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy played elderly rednecks in “Foxfire,” their real jewelry probably would have looked to fancy on their characters. In other roles, their real rings would have looked fine.
