I am a huge fan of Ol’ Hornhead. In fact, his is the only comic, superhero or otherwise, that I make an effort to keep up with. While the 2003 movie was a disappointment in a lot of ways, it wasn’t all bad and it was a big pleasure for me just to see that character on screen.
Anyway, flash-forward to now, and Netflix’s 13-episode Daredevil series is a month away. The full trailer dropped today. Even with two-plus minutes of footage, it’s hard to tell for sure how good it will be. Charlie Cox was not my idea of an action hero but he seems to bring a nice subdued intensity to what little we can see here. The action, though choppy, looks well done. And Vincent D’Onofrio looks like he’s going to kill it as Wilson Fisk. We see Karen Page, Foggy, Wesley, Stick — they’re making an effort to really tell Matt Murdock’s story properly, giving room for all the details to breathe.
Summary: I am really hoping it will be great, and increasingly allowing myself to think it actually will be. What do you all think?
The only thing I don’t like is the guy playing Foggy. His look doesn’t work for me. I will be watching it though. At this point, I’ll watch anything that Marvel puts out.
I was a Marvel guy growing up, but haven’t followed the stories for decades. Does Murdock’s blindness cause him difficulties frequently – or hardly ever? He can’t read, right? Probably can’t distinguish colors? Are there other problems he has to deal with?
I loved the Starz series Spartacus, and people responsible for that show are responsible for the new Daredevil. So I’m very excited for it, and I’m glad to see it’s getting good reviews.
Watched the first couple of episodes this afternoon. Damn this show is intense and dark; it’s borderline torture-porn dark. This is a good thing. Looking forward to watching the rest.
