Marvel's Phase III Movie List

“This Captain Marvel’s name is Carol Danvers," said Feige. "This film has been in the works almost as long as Doctor Strange or Guardians of the Galaxy before it came out, and one of the key things was figuring out what we wanted to do with it. Her adventures are very earthbound, but her powers are based in the cosmic realm.”

An Infinity War teaser:

It suggests that Loki’s spear does actually house one of the stones.

They’ve already announced Chadwick Boseman today.

Ye gods, even in that crappy shot (cellphone footage of a screen), I got a shiver when they panned around to Thanos wearing the Infinity Glove.

I am really looking forward to this!

That. Was. AWESOME!

Technically it will be Avengers: Infinity War parts 1 and 2.

I really need to make sure I don’t randomly die over the next few years.

Merged duplicate threads.

Black Panther will be a megaflop.

Sorry. I know the MCU is getting too big to continue to be nothing a bunch of whities and that’s why they have to have a full up release to check the “black hero” box but BP is a boring character with no real powers to speak of. Pretty boring back story. I don’t remember him ever being a real player in any of the major crossovers.

The only way this movie gets anywhere is if they load it up with lots of gratuitous cameos.

Captain Marvel will suffer the same fate for the same reasons, just replace “black hero” box with “girl hero” box. I just don’t think most of the viewing public is really interested in a female superhero lead unless they spend alot of time being sexy etc…

With that said if Marvel continues to stay with the “all white male” formula it will end up biting them in the butt down the road.

Black Panther is risky, but it will all be in the execution. Black Panther is a different character than any other other crop of movie superheroes. An articulate, heroic, intelligent African prince? Not something the movie-viewing public has seen in a while, and it worked for Eddie Murphy.

Given the audiences I’ve seen at MCU movies lately, there’s a decent-sized black audience already. I don’t think it’s pandering; there’s a demand. His lack of stature in the comics isn’t a huge issue – they can make him exactly as important as they want in the MCU.

Likewise Captain Marvel. She’s not a hugely well-known character, but it’s a catchy name and launching between the two halves of the megablockbuster Infinity War movie will prime the audience.

It’s Marvel’s ball to fumble. There are absolutely people that want superhero movies that aren’t more handsome white men. Even as a white man, I know I do.

A lot of people felt Iron Man was a pretty bland character when they announced that movie. ESPECIALLY with Robert Downey Jr. as Stark. Look how that worked out. Black Panther has about the same powers as Captain America, who’s going into his third movie. The character is FAR from boring …black panther wiki

Although I have no doubt his race was a factor in marvel choosing him, the bigger factor is probably his history with the avengers.

I’m not totally disagreeing with you, but Black Panther is so boring, with no powers. None. I just think that him being a black-ninja is not exciting enough to carry a movie. I feel like this has been tried once before with Daredevil. Yeah, he was blind and had sonar or whatever, but ultimately he was just a ninja type character. Not interesting on screen, and that was before all the high quality super hero movies were released. Now that movie would flop even harder than it did back when it came out.

Black Panther seems to be “the choice” strictly because he’s a black character. Granted, there aren’t alot of interesting black Marvel heroes. Luke Cage? Meh, Bishop maybe. He’s cool but Xmen. Dethlok? He was kinda cool. I’d rather see a Nick Fury origin movie than Black Panther. I think most of the world would too for that matter.

Based on the release timelines I have to believe that Captain Marvel will be introduced in Infinity War, her stand alone movie, then play a big part in the Infinity War part 2. I’m sure we’ll be bombarded with a massive GIRL POWER campaign as that movie approaches.

I think the order of “flopness magnitude” will be: 1) BP, 2) Doc S 3) Cap Marvel.

Meh…

I actually remember the Carol Danvers character being MS. Marvel, not “captain”. I had a couple of her comics in my collection. Very cool costume. She later lost her powers to Rogue.

Dethlok already exists in the MCU, courtesy of the Agents of SHIELD show.

So far, Marvel has hit all of their movies since Iron Man out the park. Ant Man is likely to be a flop, but that’s based on having 3 directors and five million writers more than anything else. They’ve managed to bring interesting things to the table each go-round, so I’m willing to believe that a relatively boring comic character can make an interesting movie character.

Antman will make a ton of money. Not GotG money, but a ton anyway. I have faith. If they hire Frumious Bandersnatch to play Dr. Strange, then that one will make a ton as well. The only one I’m even slightly leery of is Captain Marvel, and it has a hammock position that pretty much insures that it will at least turn a little profit.

Well clearly, he has more powers than captain America.

How do you figure?

I meant flop in the sense of being a shitty movie, not in the financial sense.

I think they just updated the list of movies:
