I just turned on the news as they were mentioning her death. Say it isn’t so!
Very sorry to hear this. I believe she’s been in very poor health for quite a while, so it doesn’t come as too much of a surprise.
People are leaving RIP messages on her website - http://www.marytravers.com/guestbook/gbook.php
The New York Times is reporting that she’s died from cancer.
In related news, the San Diego School Board just apologized for insisting that Pete Seeger sign a loyalty oath before performing in 1960.

AP is running the story as well:
I strongly suspect that my vote canceled hers in most national elections since I reached voting age, but I really like PP&M. May she rest in peace.
Those of you who dislike Fox might get a kick out of this, from the Fox News website:
Mary Travers of Peter, Paul and Mary Dead at 63
The band’s publicist, Heather Lylis, says Travers died at Danbury
Hospital in Connecticut on Wednesday. She was 72 and had battled
leukemia for several years.
Damn. I went to a few PP&M concerts back in the 60s; they were an amazing act. She will be missed.
You’re a sick man. Seek help.
It’s too bad. I grew up on Peter, Paul and Mary. Oh, well. Everybody has to go sometime, and she had an exceptional life.
He wasn’t happy that she was dead, he was making fun of Fox News reporting that 63-year-old Mary Travers dies at age 72. I gave it a wry smile.
Glad to see you caught it.
Equipoise, please! Get a grip. I’ve never said anything around here that would even remotely justify someone believing I’d rejoice over the death of any singer (not even Kanye).
You’re letting your ideological biases show and they are ridiculous.
At least they didn’t slip in a (D) next to her name.
This is too bad. I loved PP&M; they got me through the musical wasteland of the early 60s until the Beatles came along, and remained one of my favorite acts until their breakup. I saw them three times; they did great shows.
They were a manufactured act, brought together by Albert Grossman, I believe, but they turned out to be the real deal. I loved their interpretations of folk songs, my favorite possible being their bittersweet rendition of “Gilgarry Mountain,” usually sung as a rowdy drinking song.
And Mary had a lovely voice and an equally lovely stage presence.
Yeah, this is sad news.
If it’s any comfort, I caught it, too, and would have jumped in as Airman did if I’d been in here before he did it. I hate to see someone catch demerits for someone else’s misunderstanding.
RIP, Mary. May Puff greet you on the shore of Hohna-Lee.
Aw. How sad. I love Peter Paul & Mary…
Not one where Mary is featured, but does anyone remember PP&M’s version of Man of Constant Sorrow? Quite different from the version in O Brother, Where Art Thou?
Sad news.
I’ve been listening to her on YouTube all morning. I liked her harmonies better than her solos, though she owns Single Girl.
This one seems appropriate.
How very sad! This photo is pretty startling, not at all as I remember her.
this has been a bad year for headline deaths.
very sad news.
