Mass Effect Allows Lesbian Alien Sex, Men Remain Vanilla

A British Board of Film Classification description page reveals some potential sexual prejudice in Mass Effect, although it’s not the type you might expect. According to the description, players using a female character can initiate a sex scene “between her and male human or a female humanoid alien.” Male characters, on the other hand, can only initiate sex “between him and a human woman or a humanoid female alien.” If we’re reading that right, it means the game allows for alien lesbian sex, but not any type of male-on-male sex. Furthermore, all non-alien sex has to be heterosexual.

I suppose that’s based on their target audience, or something…

I doubt this is a “HAY buy this game, hot alien chicks!” issue so much since it generally looks to be a pretty kickass game anyway. And if this did come up only through the ratings and not through devs touting it, I don’t really see a problem.

This is probably easily explained if you dig a little deeper in the article

The single sex scene is brief and undetailed, although there is breast nudity in one version of the scene. The sex scene is triggered by the player making a series of choices about becoming more than friends with a colleague. If playing as a male character the scene can take place between him and a human woman or a humanoid female alien. If playing as a female character the scene can take place between her and a male human or a female humanoid alien.

I would guess that the setting for this scene is one in which there are only three colleagues. Two female and one male. Do the math and you get what’s described in the OP.

Of course why they left the menage a trois option out is beyond me

I understand that in this company’s previous RPG, Jade Empire, there was the possibility of your male character hooking up with one of the other guys in your party, so it’s unlikely that this is evidence of any sort of prejudice on their behalf.

It was apparently all very subtle and indirect, other than the single-pair hetero stuff, but you could also try for the following relationships:

lesbian
male PC threesome with two women

Also, in KOTOR there was a lesbian alien chick named Juhani that a female PC could hook up with.
