Apparently, even Osama Bin Laden didn’t want this group to ally with Al Qaeda because they were killing too many Muslims :

In a letter to Shabab in 2010, bin Laden politely advised the Somali-based fighters to review their operations “in order to minimize the toll to Muslims.” Shabab did not get the green light to join al-Qaida until February 2012, almost a year after bin Laden’s death.

Authorities are now saying that Al-Shabab prepared for this massacre by renting a shop in the mall. This gave them a base of operations that enabled them to move in a huge amount of armament.

The problem is that both sides are hooked on gun-tech: pellets shot through tubes because humans leak. Why not change it up some and give them what they can’t possibly expect? Assuming all doors can be sealed from leaking up to the second floor,
flood the place with a non-flammable heavier than air gas (or even cold water) that forces living mammals to climb up stairs and away from cover to breathe. Allowing for some hypothermia, arrest / dispatch at leisure.

Works on rats; should work on terrorists…

btw I found it interesting that while it killed so many people the gas basically had no effect on others at all (I recall footage of one woman simply walking out of the building during the assault). The human body is a strange and varied thing.

Well, when we do that to rats we don’t care if the baby rats and elderly rats are killed first. The terrorists, being young and healthy and able to force other people out of the way with their weapons, would have a much higher survival rate than the hostages.
