Match Buys OKCupid

Match has bought OKCupid. OKCupid has already taken down their blog post about how you should never pay for online dating. OKCupid 2005 - 2011? RIP. It’s only a matter of time.

Bummer. The site won’t be the same now. I hope I don’t wind up single again.

Wow, this could be really interesting. I’ve always said I like the people on Match better (apperently this is very demographic dependent), but I really like reading through all the questions people answer. I think how someone answers all those questions often times says more about them then what they write about themselves in the summary.

Good riddance. No offense to the people who like the site, of course. JoeyP, maybe Match will end up incorporating something like the “questions” feature in its service.

That’d be nice. Especially since some people put a lot of time into those questions as well as their journal and they have a MB.

I really hope that OKCupid doesn’t go away. I’ve been on Match for awhile and got all of one date out of it. I know that I messaged a ton of women, but only two or three ever responded. Hell half of them never even looked at my profile, unless you can keep it from showing that. I know that in Dec-Jan I sent a good 30 messages or so. Not one wrote back.

On OKCupid I’ve had a lot more success. Maybe it’s the questions or something as I have had a lot more people respond to me. I have a few first dates this weekend which is really odd for me.

And lavenderviolet you’ll always have us. :stuck_out_tongue:

That is weird. I was on OkCupid for a while, and as I just posted in the other thread, it was like my profile didn’t exist. I had a lot more success with Match, but that was about ten years ago. I wouldn’t even try signing up there now, not after my experience with the free site.

As I said in the other thread, this will let me consolidate all my futility in one place.

Quite thoughtful of them, really.
