Matrix Reloaded casting people are apparently MST3K fans

I give you Daniel Bernhardt. He played “Agent Johnson” in The Matrix: Reloaded. He was one of the agents chasing the good guys in the big freeway scene. I’m not sure if he was the one who jumped on the car hood or the other one. Irrelevant, really.

If you scroll down to the bottom of the linked page, you will see that he “starred” in a piece of dreck called “Future War,” a movie so bad that it was featured as an episode of Mystery Science Theatre 3000.

In “Future War,” which, it’s pointed out by the bots, doesn’t take place in the future, nor is it about a war, Danny boy plays an escaped human slave. He escaped evil alien overlords, who are hunting him down, with the help of their tame Tyrannosaurus Rexes, who are fitted with self-destruct mechanisms. Our hero teams up with a nun who used to be a drug dealer to take on the aliens and their dinosaurs, with the help of some local LA gang members with hearts of gold. Luckily, he happens to have some talent in the field of kickboxery, and, oh yeah, he’s also a born-again Christain, and helps the nun reaffirm her faith.

I wish I had made any of that up, but it’s all true. I don’t know how he made the move from the one movie to the other, but that’s a damn impressive move up.

That movie also featured Livng Cabbage Patch doll Robert Z’dar as the cyborg at the end.

Future War, I mean. I think we’d have spotted him if he was in the Matrix.

I’m sure that Anthony Zerbe has been in at least one MST3K experiment. He’s the essence of late 70’s B-list entertainment, right up there with Joe Don Baker and Marjoe Gortner.
