Matt Damon is Captain Kirk!

James McAvoy, I believe.

Tuckerfan, I think you’re gravely underselling Damon’s acting ability. Leaving aside his Oscar nomination for Good Will Hunting, he was robbed of another in The Talented Mr. Ripley, and then you’ve got the Bourne series, the Ocean’s movies, Syriana and The Departed. I don’t know if he’s exactly right for Kirk, but he’s a brilliant actor.

I don’t know that I would call Mr. Damon a brilliant actor. Good actor, yeah.

I actually think this is an interesting idea that could pay off. But then I’m hardly a hardcore fan of the show or series.

I could see Sinise as McCoy. I can even imagine Damon as Kirk. But Brody as Spock? Not a chance. He’s a skinny guy with a big nose, but Nimoy moved gracefully and portrayed confidence, intellect and charisma, and he was handsome, not just european jewish looking. Brody’s just…funny looking. And not in a good way.

Let’s be precise, are you conceding both are european jewish looking, or just the one? Shall we include Shatner in this discussion then?

Fuck me! He was born the same day as me.

THE SAME DAY.

Why haven’t they cast MEEEEE in a major motion picture yet?

You emote too much.

So what you’re saying is Nancarrow should be playing Kirk!

Will he even have to do all that? Trek is an ensemble, Damon doesn’t have to carry the whole load. Personally as long as he doesn’t even try to imitate Shatner, we’ll be at least a step ahead.

I would think that Spock would be the one that would be hardest to “replace”.

Brody has as good a chance as anyone, IMO.
<only watches ST movies on DVD, if then>

Trek may be an ensemble, but Kirk’s the star, and he’s the guy who has to evaluate the marital bickering between Spock and McCoy (Silly slash writers, it wasn’t Kirk and Spock who were lovers!) and choose the right course of action. Can you picture Damon saying into his communicator, “Scotty, you’re fired.” and not thinking, “Man, I thought he was a dick in Dogma, but damn he’s really a dick here!”

eleanorigby, Nimoy has actually given very detailed instructions on how to play Spock in his autobiographies.

Nimoy, along with Martin Landau and Mark Lenard have the type of face that many people think of when they hear “European jewish looking”. Since Landau was considered for the role of Spock before Nimoy and Lenard portrayed Spock’s father, I am assuming that the producers had a long face with high cheekbones, a prominent nose, thin lips and a dark caucasian complexion in mind for vulcans.
I suppose Adrian Brody fits that stereotype as well, but I have no idea if he is of Jewish heritage and I suppose it doesn’t matter; Voyager (although I never watched it) had a black vulcan, so they can come in any color or flavor.

Shatner, since you brought him up, is of European Jewish heritage and has a shape of face that many people in the US think of as “Irish” or some other western or central European type, and does not fit the stereotype “jewish looking”.

Is that precise enough for you? :dubious:

I thought the premise was supposed to be that it was shortly after they graduated from Starfleet. They’re too old, the lot of them. Color me confused.

You’re right, agewise would see to put them right smack in the thick of the series.

Another chance to remake Forbidden Planet, the Enterprise pilot being the first.

Craig proves that Hollywood should screw around with things. Sometimes you get something quite good. If it turns out to be crap, no skin off my nose. It’s only a movie.

And if ticket prices were lower or Follywood had a higher success rate, I might agree with you.

Hey, I’ll just wait until you post about wasting your money on the ticket.

Well, unless folks post reviews of this thing that sound like it’s cooler than an iPhone, I won’t be going to see it.

Rats. :smack:
I bet it’ll work on Noclue, though.
