And heck, if you’re going to do that, why not just go all the way and hire Jean-Claude Van Damme to play Magnum.

I think Vince Vaughan would be a good Magnum. he’s got the humor, the quick wit and the bonhomie, but I think he’s also got the ability show some steel, some rage, some violence when he has to. I don’t know how he’d look with the moustache, though.

“Magnum P.I. - Porn Incorporated”
“According to Teletext UK, the writer and director for the flick, Rawson Marshall Thurber, has enlisted Matthew McConaughey as his top choice to play the title character with Steve Zahn, William H. Macy, and Tyrese Gibson rounding out the supporting cast to play Rick, T.C., and Higgins, respectively.”
Zahn I have no opinion about, but much as I love Macy, I can’t see Higgins in him, unless they rewrite the role.
As for Thurber, he’s got little apart from writing “Dodgeball,” and according to the IMDB, considers the best comedy ever made to be “Ghostbusters.” Make of that what you will.

I don’t think he knows what the word “respectively” means.

Everybody knows the best comedy ever made was Ghost Busters II!
On the youth issue, Affleck is 35 - the same age Selleck was when he took the role. His weight class is obviously a matter of opinion. Personally, I don’t see Thomas Magnum as being a role that requires more gravitas than Affleck could give.
