Yeah regarding the sting. Just feels real BSish to me. Looks like the Govt. resources offered to him for the sting was what allowed him to acquire the weapon in the first place.
Basically the shadowy network that helped him get the missile was the US government not al qaeda.

I have a problem with the story as well. Lakhani is certainly a sick fuck, but that is all he is. He was putting Russian operatives on the selling end in contact with US operatives on the buying end. Until the real buyers and sellers are caught, it’s a pretty limited victory.

This is largely correct. I’d also add Shiva has very specific methods by which said destruction takes place and these have ritual significance.
Also, in traditional Hindu culture the ass is considered, well, dirty, and should not be associated with God. This is where the source of my irritation is coming from.

Given that Hinduism embraces caste discrimination as virtue and its history of barbaric religious rituals like thuggee and suttee, not to mention the current abuses of power by fundamentalist Hindu political groups like Shiv Sena and the BJP, I’m not terribly impressed by Bright N’ Shiny’s protests.
What does Hinduism’s history have to do with a Hindu finding something offensive? You insinuating that Bright N’ Shiny believes in the caste system, encourages Suttee, and virulent fundamentalism?
Please correct me if I am wrong (I’m pretty sure you will) but isn’t Shiva representative of Good while Kali is representative of Evil? If I’m wrong, then the Cult of Thugi was an mere aberation equivolent to our Jim Jones or WACO cult(s).
If Kali is evil, then insulting Kali would only insult people who worship an evil deity…thus if the title was about Kali’s hand, we’d be insulting Evil Hindus <band name>. And the Missle Buying Bastard about whom the thread was directed is Evil without doubt, so we’d be hitting the correct demographic.
I think his use of Shiva was simply to utilize the 100 arms as opposed to most other dieties lackluster 2. Aren’t there times on the road you wish you had more than 1 bird to flip? Zenster too.
From this article today it appears that along with this guy some of the people that handled that money transfer have also been arrested. As I recall this is a top priority for law enforcement since these backroom money transfer are alledged to be a primary mechanism for supporting terror operations.

Not exactly. Hinduism doesn’t draw the clear lines of demarcation between good and evil (oops, sorry, Good and Evil) that Christianity does. To Western eyes, Kali, with her neckalce of skulls, blood-red tongue, and fearsome expression, looks like a demon from Hell, but to Hindus she is one aspect of the fiecr warrior/mother goddess Durga, and in her form as Kali she delivers bliss to her devotees. Her bloodthirsty appearance is the representation of her aspect af the destroyer of transitory forms , as symbolized in the story of her creation, when the gods asked Parvati (Shiva’s wife and another aspect of Durga) to fight the demon Raktabija.
Anyhoo, Hindu theology is extremely complex and does not lend itself to simplistic dualism.

And aren’t you the one who constantly has to clear up misconceptions about LDS (possibly I’m mistaken)? Whatever. I guess it’s bad for people to make derogatory statements about LDS, but it’s ok for you to make such statements about Hinduism.

Are you going to defend the treatment meted out to the Dalit in the rural states? Are you going to defend caste discrimination? Religious racism?
I’ve spent time in India, I like the people and the country, but there are aspects to Hinduism (which not all Indians practice; did you know that?) that I vehemently dislike.

Caste discrimination is illegal in India since independence, and not all branches of Hinduism support a caste system. The branch I follow certainly doesn’t. But I guess that doesn’t matter in you’re sweeping generalizations.
