Former NHL coach Pat Burns died earlier in the month after battling various forms of cancer for about six years.
Yesterday (Monday), Burns’ funeral was held at a church in Montreal. Some inbred son of a bitch (or more than one) broke into the car belonging to Burns’ widow and stole some autographed hockey jerseys that were to be auctioned to raise money for the arena in Stanstead, Quebec that will be named after Burns. They also made off with some other personal effects: a Movado watch, IPad, some pictures and credit cards, etc.
Fucking jack-off(s). I hope you get thrown in a cell with an ex-lumberjack named Bruno who hasn’t seen a woman in thirty-five years.
I hope whoever did this has at least enough functioning brain cells to return the items. There’s no way anyone in Montreal, perhaps all of Canada could possibly want to buy this stuff.
I hope it ends peacefully because if the public ever finds out who did this there could be some serious vigilante justice.
Not that it at ALL justifies what happened— I mean, what a bunch of sick assholes, BUT
Who leaves a fucking Movado watch, an iPad, and their credit cards sitting out in their car? Even at a funeral. I mean, I know she had a lot on her mind, but c’mon.
I don’t understand how or why thieves steal rare things. How could he possibly hope to sell this? Like, take those movies where they steal the Hope Diamond or whatever…now what? You’ve got the hottest object on the planet, a million people looking for you, and you’re…what, going to put it on eBay? Sell it to some collector or Hope diamonds? Sell it to a millionaire that’s always really, really wanted a gem to hide in his basement, making his wildest dreams come true?
In addition to these items being basically un-sellable…
Burns was a beloved hockey coach in a city known for it’s devotion to hockey.
He was a former police officer
He helped found several motorcycle clubs
The thief should seriously consider the kind offer that’s currently out there to return the items, no questions asked. Otherwise, there really will not be anywhere he can hide
People who are devoted enough to a hockey coach to commit murder or start riots should be euthanized. In fact, make make that any person devoted to any sports figure or any sports event or a sport itself to commit violent crime over the theft of some sweaty clothing that some idiot scribbled on should not be around, breathing the air better used by the sane.
Thieving a basket of sweaty jock straps does not make you a monster… it makes you stupid.
I don’t think the existential worth of the items stolen has much to do with what makes this a particularly heinous crime.
Stealing from mourners is pretty low, even giving the benefit of the doubt and assuming they didn’t know it was the widow’s car. (Which they probably did, the rat bastard(s).)
And then on the news I heard that a woman who’d fallen asleep in a hospital corridor at a cancer ward in Vancouver had her purse stolen brazenly from her. Sure, you shouldn’t fall asleep in a public place with your valuables vulnerable, but come on.
People who prey on the grieving and the sick and the helpless are souless fuckers.
Because they’re stupid. There are probably Danny Ocean-style criminal masterminds out there somewhere, but most thieves are thieves because they couldn’t hold down a job at McDonald’s (or couldn’t get one, more often).
