Let the weeked commence!
Mine started rather unexpectedly. I was making dinner when the WryGuy called on his way home from work and said we’d been invited to our friend’s down the street for drinks and general relaxation. And he said another couple was gonna be there too, so he’d just go down there and meet me, yes? And we’d order a pizza or something later? I said, “EXCUSE ME! I am MAKING DINNER. You will come home and eat it and THEN we will go down the street.” Because I was in the middle of making an enormous fruit-and-chicken-and-crunchy-things salad, you see.
The WryGuy sounded kinda disappointed by this news, but hey, if I stop what I’m doing to make dinner, he will dern well eat it. And fruit-and-chicken-with-crunchy-things salad doesn’t keep, cuz the crunchy things become limp things after a while.
Suddenly I had a brainstorm. Why not invite everyone over here to eat fruit-and-chicken-with-crunchy-things salad - it was a big salad, and I also had a bunch o’ sliced deli ham and turkey and roast beast and cheese and bread and pickles and stuff like that. So I called the guy down the street, who called the other couple, and then I called yet another couple, and within ten minutes there were six kids and seven adults in my kitchen, scooping out fruit-and-chicken-with-crunchy-things salad and making sammiches and opening wine bottles. Also two dogs, but they were very polite and stayed out of the kitchen.
AND - we got to use the new dining room for the first time ever. So yay for that!
Tomorrow - we have to go to another friend’s aunt’s memorial service, then we’re moving a futon into the Kid’s room, then I have to bake a cake, then my Mom is coming to spend the night and we’re going down to our friend down the street’s house for homemade pizza.
Sunday - we’re having Mothers’ Day brunch with all of the above people and their families at yet another friend’s house (which is why I am baking a cake) and eventually coming back here to sleep it all off.
HAPPY MOTHERS’ DAY WEEKEND!!!
