It is in poor taste because she and the prince have attempted to tie in their own political causes as reasons for the Sept. 11th attack. This is simply foolish, as the terrorists of Sept 11th care nothing for any of their causes. Bin Laudin never even mentioned the Palestinians’ plight until after Sept 11th and he certainly cares nothing about the treatment of minorities in America.
McKinney’s actions are in poorer taste because she has criticised her own nation in an appeal for aid from a foreign power.
If one wishes to criticise the actions of the US government or condemn some aspect of US society, simply do so. There are many criticisms that are justified and we need to hear them if we are to improve. It is not the criticism that is in poor taste, it is using a national tragedy as a launching board for those criticisms that is.
Another Atlantan here. Rep. McKinney has very little credibility outside her own district, and this is not the first time she’s made an unwise political choice like this one.
But believe it or not, she often has to put out fires started by her father, a state representative (or state senator, I forget which) in the Georgia Assembly, who’s even more of a loose cannon.
