Mayweather's victory stinks

The right thing to do if you don’t want to play kissy face is push the guy away and put up your dukes. The wrong thing to do is to take a shot at a guy with his guard down apologizing, however inappropriate that apology is.

I’m in the “haha fuck Ortiz” camp on this one.

What I saw was a decision to headbutt by Ortiz and an immediate regret for the action. He apologized, and the ref told them to fight again. Then it looked to me like Mayweather saw an opportunity to sucker Ortiz in, and Ortiz took the bait. He went after it like a twenty dollar crack whore looking at a fifty dollar bill. Mayweather saw that Ortiz had let his guard down, and let him have a left and a right and a trip to the canvas.

If I was in a boxing match and had just been on the receiving end of a headbutt, and I saw a chance to sucker my opponent legally so that he dropped his guard, I’d take it too.

Mayweather won this fight in so many ways it’s ridiculous. Ortiz will now be relegated to footnote status, as it seems he deserves.

That’s true. However, sometimes when great fighters meet when after their prime, it can actually make for a better fight. Ali vs Frazier III was really dramatic cause they had both slowed down and were able to find each other better.

If floyd is getting older and his legs are going (which they seem to be, he’s spending more time on the ropes now adays), then he will have to fight pacquaio instead of using excellent ring defense.

I agree in some ways… Depends on the fight and the weight class. Some fighters are at their prime when older (low to mid 30s), because they’ve got a great chunk of their skills and are wiser, making for a better equipped opponent.

I just feel at the middleweight class that I’d like to see them at their quickest and most reflexive. I’d be interested either way. If they could fight twice (at 25 and 35 y/o), that’d be sweet.

.

I’m not a fan of either boxer but the KO was legal and Ortiz probably deserved it for the head butt but it bothers me a little that Mayweather threw the punch as they were coming out of a hug. Ortiz’s hands were still underneath Mayweather’s and he was not really given the opportunity to defend himself.
I think Mayweather should have refused any apology, kisses or hugs, pushed Ortiz back and settled it with his hands. I think by the third or fourth apology and hug Mayweather (or maybe his corner) decided to capitalize on it.

On another note, anybody else think the head butt looked like a deliberate attempt to injure Mayweather?
from what I saw Ortiz was raining Mayweather with shots, then Mayweather gives him the head shake that says “those don’t hurt”, then Ortiz gets him on the ropes and, in frustration, delivers the head butt up underneath.

The head butt looked like a deliberate attempt to hurt Mayweather. But Ortiz was embarrassed and repeatedly tried to apologize. I think once was enough, but he kept at it. He was still not fighting when he left an opening that Mayweather could not pass up. They actually touched gloves before he hit him.
The fight is a mess and should be redone.

Curious to see what your idea of a heavy head butt is…

Mayweather said something like, “we both did something that was kind of wrong, but mine won the fight” . He said he would be happy to fight him again. It seemed he felt it was the right thing to do.
