McCain Supporter Attacked?

Last week, an Obama supporter actually was attacked by a McCain supporter. Senator Obama even called her to reassure her. But since it was just some random old guy doing the attacking, it didn’t make the national news.

So wait, you’re saying that going to the effort of making up evidence of a cover story, like putting a false black eye on your face, is STRONGER evidence for mental illness than stupidity? I frankly don’t think you know much about mental illness.

No, I’m not saying that at all. Should I just quote my entire post which says something completely different from that again, or do you need me to actually type it all out for you one more time?

Note to John McCain: If you have to push the trigger, you’re holding it backwards.

Calling someone mentally ill also provides a convenient excuse for a lot of people, whether or not there is a factual basis for the claim.

It might, sure. Can you illustrate how that is happening in this case, including your evidence that the claim is not factual, or what your reasons for accepting everything the cops say except that she’s mentally ill are?

This is not all about Ashley Todd. She made up a story for attention. It was the McCain campaign that 1) ran to the press with the story before it was verified by the police and 2) brought her onboard their campaign in the first place.

So did she have a history of insanity, and the McCain campaign thought that was fine, or did she seem completely normal, and she’s using her “history of insanity” as an excuse for her inexcusable behavior?

So enough about whether or not Todd is a racist. It seems clear that the McCain campaign exploited this story to stoke racist fears.

I agree with that, absolutely.

The cops are not saying she is mentally ill; the cops are saying she says she is mentally ill.

You are really stretching the facts here.

I’m stretching the facts because I’m choosing to believe the only ones that exist instead of your theory that Ashley Todd was controlled by space aliens (which, once again, has exactly the same zero amount of evidence to support it as that she intended to stir up racial unrest)?

As I said, she could be lying. If she is, we’ll find out, and I’ll change my position. But of course I’m not going to just believe in your theories until I have some reason to do so. What I don’t understand is the adamance that everyone must discard all information but the theories of message board posters.

As for how the letter B appeared on her face, but was not visible as she was perp-walked out of the police station, one of history’s great authorities on the subject has this to say:

Thanks again for recommending this book, Harmonious Discord!

This is all just over the top. What are you trying to do here? Do you have some kind of point you are trying to advance? First, it was “invoking the spectre of the big aggressive hypersexual black man is not necessarily racist”, and now its “she must be mentally ill because she says so and everyone who disagrees is a message board zealot.”

What is your point?

No, first it was “invoking that spectre might be more indicative of culturally entrenched racism than the character of a particular mentally ill person”. Then it was “no one has shown one scrap of evidence for the theory that she intentionally set out to cause racial unrest because she is herself a racist”. Those are my (main) points.

Obviously, the lady has issues. And I don’t think her actions, in themselves, reflect in any way on either campaign, since she’s just some random nut-job, not someone affiliated with either campaign.

However, presumably she IS a McCain supporter…not exactly a feather in their cap, but I’m sure there are plenty of weird Obama supporters as well.

Further, the details of her story belie an underlying racism; classic, the big Black man robbing and sexually assaulting the White woman AND HE’s an Obama supporter! See what will happen if this man is elected? The Blacks will be running wild and carving up and FEELING up White women!. A similar streak of racism runs through quite a lot of the e-mail drivel being spread by other McCain supporters.

The fact that many McCain supporters were so quick to pick this up and run with it and ASSUME it was true reflects badly, I think.
And like much of that drivel which has been declared misleading or outright false, this is STILL circulating as fact among some McCain backers (guess they missed the memo).

So this SHOULDN’T reflect poorly on McCain or the majority of his supporters, but it still DOES.

Well, you know what? They obviously mean a lot more to you than me, so I wish you well. Have fun pursuing these highly relevant and well-considered issues.

Am I to take it you’re admitting your characterization of my positions was vastly inaccurate?

Did you miss the part about her taking a year off college to work for the College Republicans?

Right. Her illness, her normality, her asshattedness, her fantasies of being sexually assaulted by a large Black man (what was that old movie?), whatever … the issue is how the McCain campaign jumped at the chance to aid and abet the publicity of an event that even other members of the wingnut club knew didn’t pass the smell test.

Mandingo?

Yeah, that’s the one! Thanks.
