Iowa lady runs over girl with car because the girl "Looked Mexican"

I’m sure the girl had a stick or something, right? This woman makes me fucking sick.

Probably a nut case, but it’s hard to ignore the fact that the man in the White House stokes this sort of racial hatred.

This appears mainly a nutcase, but Trump’s rhetoric, his race baiting probably contributed to her dangerous mental state.

Another report about this story said that the driver was charged with DUI, but the chemical kind. I wonder what she was on. It’s certainly no justification in any case.

Sure. But somewhere a liberal was a bit condescending to a Republican, so … you know … both sides and all that.

Fair point, that is equivalent after all.

If you think I’m serious, please take your sarcasm meter for a check up.

Yes it is all Trump’s fault. Trump = the new Godwinizer.

Already being discussed in the SRIOTD thread. She had apparently smoked meth about 5 hours before. I suspect that only released her inhibitions, but no doubt she will try to blame the drug and not her own attitudes.

It is actually in the article, so no you idiot, not applicable in this case. Excellent reading before knee-jerking.

Driving under the influence of Donald fucking Trump. (And meth.)

We may need a new charge & abbreviation: DUIPOTUS.

Unsurprisingly, meth, according to a different article.

ETA: I see** Morgyn** got there first.

Apart from the hate crime enhancement, what would she be charged with? Assault with a deadly weapon and attempted murder? In non-hate-crime circumstances, would there be any reduction in charges or in sentencing, or the possibility of a not guilty verdict, due to the substance issue?

That happens when the President openly encouraged people to see Latino people as a threat, acting like a bunch of asylum seekers were going to take their houses and jobs. He pushed this in states nowhere near the border–like Iowa–when the refugees hadn’t even made it across Mexico.

People don’t normally want to kill Mexicans, even if they are bigoted towards them. They may see them as inferior, but not as life threatening. But Trump has changed the rhetoric.

You provided not argument but mockery. It is, as usual, unconvincing to any who don’t already agree with you.

If the President being a bigot causes you to run over someone you think is Mexican, you were already fucked up to begin with. You sound like the person who gives rapists a pass because porn exists and made them rape.

But the article doesn’t reveal if the victim was really Mexican, so we don’t know if the claimed extenuating circumstance was valid.

I think you’re onto something. Think about what you wrote for a little bit.

And when the President openly calls people who try to run over those he considers enemies “good people”.

I’m sure the lady was fucked up to begin with. And I don’t think anyone should–or is–giving her any kind of pass, morally speaking. She is responsible for her own actions, and ought to be held fully accountable for them. (Including the action of deciding to do meth, if that was a factor in what happened.)

But I absolutely believe that having someone like Donald Trump as President of the United States shifts the Overton window on this sort of thing. Bigots become murderous bigots. People who were already a little prejudiced become full-blown bigots. People who were maybe just a little bit cranky become ethnically or religiously prejudiced. And so forth.

Sorry, but it isn’t just us who think so. Damn those peskyfacts.

Yeah, the ACTUAL Godwin guy said it was an acceptable comparison. Are you seriously denying Trump ran on hatred?

Go on, make an argument for how he always tells the truth, too.
