If I was king, aside from making her pay fully one-half of all her future income to that girl, I would immediately seize the car and give the girl the following three choices:
- The govt auctions off the car and give her the proceeds.
- The govt gives the ownership of the car to someone of her choosing.
- The govt store the car until she gets a drivers license when she would take ownership of the car.
How about:
- the girl is given a crash course in operating the car. When she’s confident enough, the meth lady gets led out the middle of an empty parking lot, and her victim gets one free shot at her with the car.*
*DISCLAIMER: I don’t really advocate for this penalty. It does have a certain pleasing symmetry about it, though.

Sorry, no link handy, but I also saw on another site that before she was arrested, she went into a nearby convenience store and threatened at least one black person who happened to be there.

Not really. I suppose I could have said “accelerated course,” but I don’t imagine that would have been any less unintentionally waggish. I did consider how it might come across,* but I still found it to be the most fitting term.

There is nothing to be embarrassed about for being white, and there is nothing to be embarrassed about for being human. However there is something to be embarrassed about if you look at this incident, shrug your shoulders and say, “Well bad things happen whatcha gonna do” without at least acknowledging, the systemic problems in our society that led to incidents like this occurring, and the actions of certain political parties and individuals that make them more likely.
