All I have to add is that running for president is not for the weak of constitution. You’re basically working 24/7 for a year, AND you have to do it without looking tired, worn-out, or sick. If his health was as bad as everyone thought, I think he would have either succumbed to physical exhaustion or bowed out by now. Or is he crazy enough to die trying to win the White House?
And for the record, nonpartisan Obama supporter here.
I would have posted essentially what Blaster Master said, but I think, while his mother’s longevity is a bonus, the stress issue is something he’s overlooking.
Examine Kerry versus GWB, and Gore vs GWB.
Look at Clinton now and Clinton after his terms ended. Bill looks healthier.
I say, less than two years if inaugurated, from stress alone. If not elected, the campaign season has probably pulled two years off his life… so, I say he’ll make 77. Maybe.
So Jon Kyl (to the Right of McCain) becomes our senior senator and someone else, also to the Right of McCain, becomes our new junior senator. I don’t see how this makes Arizona a better place. At least McCain is environmentally friendly and brings attention to us through his fame and seniority, and he’s not all that explicitly religious like a lot of Republicans. The only scenario that looks good at first would be if Janet makes a bid to replace him and wins, but then Jan Brewer, also to the right of McCain, becomes governor. A net shift to the Right. It’s hard to see how McCain leaving would be a good thing for Arizona from any liberal viewpoint.
Sure, Jon Kyl in a Democratic dominated Senate isn’t going to be able to do much. McCain, with his seniority and coming off a presidential campaign he lost would be a greater danger in the Senate. Regardless of who’s governor, they are going to have to do a lot of unpopular things to balance the budget. So, put Janet Napolitano in the Senate with a Democratic majority, let Brewer take the heat for budget cuts, and put McCain in the old folks home.
The whole expiration date thingy is confusing. Like, I got some half and half in the fridge that I kinda forgot about, way past its “expiration date”, can’t pour it into the coffee, would have to dig it out with a spoon, and glop it in…
But its not dead! In fact, in a way, you could say it was more alive than ever…
Practically speaking? I dunno, maybe the last five or six. As I mentioned above, I think the real worry isn’t whether McCain expired entirely, but whether he’s incapacitated. Even in this WORLD! OF! THE FUTURE!!! I don’t think a stroke victim gets along so much better, from the perspective of job performance, than one 50-100 years ago.
