In L.A., you can start a fist-fight over whether In-N-Out or Fatburger is better. And then someone comes along and throws Tommy’s into the mix… ![]()
It’s supposed to be fairly thick. Here’s a picture. Instead of pouring it over a patty and bun (chili size), it needs to be thick enough to stay in the sandwich.

Yes, IN&OUT Burgers arethe best for the money, by far- but fries “meh”. Five guys is Ok, nice fries but they adamantly refuse to have 1000 island dressing for their burgers, so i wont go there.
If you get a Tommys with no chili, it loses, so it’s not really in there. Yes, for a chiliburger, it’s fantastic.
Fatburger is nice, but far more expensive and they have a problem getting my order right. In&Out never fails to get my order right.
FWIW, Five Guys burgers taste like Wendy’s to me. Only they cost like twice as much.
Well, since they are made essentially identically, with essentially identical ingredients, that’s not a shock. ![]()
I like In-N-Out for the fact that the entire product is fresh, so even though the fries are not exceptional, at least I know they are made from potatoes right there. Same with Five Guys, which does have a better fries product. But where In-N-Out is really good is that the shakes are real. And they taste better than Five Guys shakes, for those Five Guys stores that have them.
Of course, they all pale in comparison to Chick-fil-A fries and shakes, but then you can’t get a burger there. ![]()
actually I really meant it in the sense that it just didn’t live up to the hype I had heard about it from a few acquaintances, not that it wasn’t good. If they had locations in Michigan I’d gladly go back when the mood strikes and if I find myself in Vegas or California again I’ll hit them up.
IME, any place which does fries in a single step (In-n-out, Penn Station, etc.) is similar. Cooked “normally” they don’t always seem “done” in the middle. if you get them well-done then the outside loses all of its water and the oil starts to seep in too much.
Oddly enough, the In N Out burger is pretty much the only burger I ever get with hamburger sauce/1000 island on it. Typically, I’m just a ketchup, mustard, pickles, onion guy.
As for Five Guys and Wendy’s, I don’t know about that. I just don’t like Wendy’s burgers. I have no idea why. I try them a few times a year, and every time I’m disappointed. The patty is underseasoned, the bun is too thick or too much or something. I just end up getting their spicy chicken sandwich there now. It’s a shame, because I want to like their burgers, especially since one opened up less than a half mile from me.
But I freaking love Five Guys.
Two all beef patties, special sauce etc…is brilliant! lol :D:D:D
It was in the height of its time!!
Course, no doubt its “funky” these days. Wonder what it’d sound like in Rap!!:eek:
