Just those two, please; which do you like more/think tastes better?
And if you dislike both, then why are you opening this thread? I’m really just looking for those who like either one (and knowing which one that is) or both (and knowing which of the two they like just a bit (or a lot) more).
Thinking about it myself today, both burgers seem to have both pros and cons.
Big Mac: Pros-Special sauce, seems to be more juicy. Cons-Smaller, made with less toppings.
Whopper: Pros-Much larger, more toppings and condiments, has a more “flame-broiled” taste that some really like Cons-Whoppers seem to be much more dry and bland tasting, at least to me. They also don’t have the secret sauce which is one of the huge nods I give to the Big Mac.
And yes, I know secret sauce is just a type of Thousand Island Dressing…and that one could just add it to the Whopper if they were so inclined…but still.
I’m trying to think back when I was young and could metabolize that stuff… honestly it’s a tossup for all the reasons you mentioned. The Big Mac seems more juicy but I think we can attribute that entirely to the sauce-drenching. A good Whopper with a well-salted tomato was usually my go-to.
Hands down, my choice between the two is the Whopper. I don’t like MacDonald’s in general and never, ever patronize it. (We have both Mickey D’s and Burger King in Thailand including some branches of both that are 24 hours.)
However, my favorite hamburger in Thailand would be one from The Firehouse, owned by an American lawyer from Hawaii who is based in Japan. And yes, the waitresses do look similar to the one on the website – in fact, that was an actual waitress, but she’s since quit – and they tend to dress rather sexy. Have it my way indeed.
Big Macs are an rare-but-severe craving for me. Maybe two, maybe three times a year, I will find myself deeply in need of one. Every other day of the year, it would be about the last thing on the McDonald’s menu I’d order.
Whoppers I could eat damn near any day, but I would almost never crave them.
On balance, I’d be happier in a world without Whoppers than a world without Big Macs and Big Macs are a tiny bit less unhealthy, so Big Mac gets the nod. Barely.
Whopper doesn’t have yellow industrial sludge on it.
Whoppers actually used to be pretty good hamburgers, but the quality has gone down over the decades. I don’t think they’re even flame broiled any more. Still, it’s better than a Big Mac.
Neither of them are favorites but I’ll take Whopper over a Big Mac. I would prefer Wendy’s 1/4-lb cheeseburger to either of them.
The Big Mac is a scam. It only has 0.2 pounds of beef, the same as a dollar-menu McDouble. They add an extra bun in the middle to make it seem bigger. It does have lettuce, but you can get that on a $2 Daily Double. Why is the Big Mac $3.50?
The Whopper also has too much bun, but at least it has both lettuce tomato like a proper burger. The bun makes it too high-calorie. I would prefer if they put the same meat and toppings on a smaller bun.
How is it that I voted for the Big Mac, and at least two other posters say they’ve done the same, but the poll only shows one vote for it?
Anyway, it’s been ages since I’ve eaten either, since I’ve been cutting back on my consumption of beef. I’ll make an exception for really good beef, but neither McDonald’s nor Burger King meets my standard for that. Back when I was a great eater of beef, though, I definitely preferred the Big Mac. The meat itself is a bit tastier in the Whopper, but the special sauce is enough to make up for that. And tomato can make a huge difference on a burger, but not if it’s just the cheap flavorless hothouse tomatoes you get at a fast-food place.
I don’t know that I’ve ever had a Big Mac. It’s one of those foods that I’m not sure if I’ll like it, and I don’t want to spend the money and come home hungry.
I will go out of my way for a Whopper for dinner. mmm mmm mmm
Whoppers always, without fail, make my stomach sick. I find it too greasy and maybe is the ‘flame broiled’, but it just never, ever sits well. Big Macs tend to be fine on my stomach.
Neither is as good as a real burger made at a fish and chip shop or burger restaurant but at least the Whopper vaguely resembles one. A Big Mac is just alternate layers of sugar and fat.
