I’m trying to parse this out, and I can’t figure out what you mean. Do you mean to say that the 'Skins receivers are on par with the Colts? Or on par with McNabb? Either way, I disagree.

Eh, the majority of Eagles fans are morons, let’s face it. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if this was the case. As for me, I’ve defended McNabb numerous times on this board, but I also don’t think he could have won in Philly, so I was for trading him. I absolutely think he can win a Super Bowl… just not in Philly. I can’t imagine I’ll be changing my tune, because I’d rather finally know what the team has in Kolb instead of languishing with the same limited upside. Maybe Kolb is a better fit for the offense and the team can sustain drives better than before.
By the way, I think it’s hilarious that McNabb has gone to one of the few teams with almost zero talent at WR – a common lament about his early years in Philly. Still, they have a decent run game and a very good defense. They should be very improved.
Most McNabb haters are irrational. They don’t like him because he’s black, or because he’s goofy, or because his overachieving, talentless teams never got to a Super Bowl and he didn’t win the one time he did get there. They’re stupid. But a rational Eagles fan (there might still be a couple left on some clearance racks, if you shop around) realizes two things: one, the Eagles had a limited upside with McNabb at QB, because he was a poor match for that offense; and two, he still has a lot left and is a very dangerous threat to face 2-3 times a season. He had one of his best seasons in his career last year, and has put together 3 very good seasons in a row. He’s not, by any means, finished. And maybe now he realizes how much shit Philly put him through, and how badly they treated him, and he suddenly realizes how badly he wants to beat the Eagles this coming season. That’s a frightening thought.
What, then, do we call the people who post emboldened commentary about other people’s worth as humans based on their opinions of sports transactions?
Your point isn’t a point, and your example isn’t an example. You just named a city. “The odds say” you won’t win multiple championships with anybody, so what you’re asking for is an upheaval of the entire roster every year. But of course you’re not really asking for that; like just about every other mook in this town, what you’re actually doing is getting more and more bombastic and declarative in order to defend what is in the end a personal dislike of McNabb. Which by all means, carry on, of course, nobody says you have to like the guy. But if you’re going to argue that this was a move that had to be made to get the Eagles closer to a Super Bowl, you’re being silly. If you think the Eagles management even cares all that much, in the end, about making moves for the purpose of getting a championship, you’re being even sillier.
I’m going to guess he was saying the Eagles, with Jackson and Maclin and Celek and McCoy, had finally given McNabb offensive talent comparable to what’s around Peyton Manning. Which is overstating the case, but it’s true their receiving corps is now much better than they had been for the rest of his career.
Finally had that kind of talent in Philadelphia, I believe is what he meant.
None of my Eagle fan friends like this.
The Eagles just screwed themselves out of a very good team next year.
Have fun in mediocrity boys.
As a skins fan, I don’t like it. He’s an upgrade over Campbell, but not by a lot. I think they’d be better off accepting this a rebuilding year, try to focus on the o-line and pick up one of the top 4 QBs in the draft to try to develop something long term. Given the ancient set of RBs (Portis, Johnson, and Parker), I thought this was the plan. They didn’t have a lot of draft picks before, so they know they can’t address all thier needs (QB, OT, RB, OG, MLB, CB, FS…)
Grabbing McNabb forces their hand with the #4 pick. They HAVE to get o-line. Before they had choices between the best available QB or OT. Whichever they picked, they could hope for the other in the 2nd round. Now, if Okung is gone, they’re screwed and have to reach for a player, or draft a player that doesn’t fill their needs.
Beyond that, they have to hope they can extend his contract, and that he has the durability and desire to try to extend it.
It just doesn’t make sense for the skins.
I’m not your friend, but I like it. The Eagles won’t compete next season, but after that? They have a potential dynasty if Kolb is anywhere near above average and the Eagles can make 1 or 2 moves on defense. Kolb is 25, LeSean McCoy is 21, DeSean jackson is 23 and Jeremy Maclin is 21, and Brent Celek is 25. Their oldest starter on the offensive line is 29.
Mediocrity will be a very short ride.
I’m not sure it makes sense for anybody. I don’t get why people are so upset with just being merely “very good”. The Eagles had one of the league’s best records during McNabb’s tenure. Yes, it would have been great to win it all, but it’s a zero-sum game, so most people will get shafted.
On a par with McNabb, sorry.
By that logic, the Broncos should’ve gotten rid of Elway in the early to mid 90s.
Yeah, and what the hell were the Steelers thinking hanging onto that Bettis guy? Or that Cowher guy, for that matter?
I like Peter King but he’s not an analyst and his track record of predicting things like this is pretty spotty at best. There are just too many teams that are scrapping for a QB and there are too few that inspire confidence in the draft to think that Campbell won’t draw a lot of interest. He’s only contracted for 1 year and the Redskins has lost some leverage with Campbell obviously being expendable but the demand is great enough that Campbell should command a better pick than that, or multiple picks. I think Carolina would be foolish to not grab him and extend him, they have nothing there now and their offense can’t wait to develop a rookie. There’s no chance that a 3rd or 4th round pick would improve the Panthers more than Campbell and Campbell seems to be an A+ character guy to boot.
This doesn’t make sense to me. I’m not a huge McNabb fanatic and I am probably more critical of him than most but this is a great fit for him and for the Redskins. The Redskins need to build around him but they will have no trouble luring FAs and they have plenty of picks to get started with that.
Saying that the McNabb deal is bad because it removes the option of drafting a QB with the #4 pick is putting the cart before the horse. Drafting a QB at #4 is by no means a sure thing and most people think taking Claussen at #4 is a bit of a reach out of necessity. I can’t imagine anyone would rather have him than McNabb.
The Redskins need to be very smart with that #4 pick and their two biggest needs, WR and OT, probably aren’t great values at that spot but there’s a chance they could trade back and offset the pick they had to give up. Still, taking Dez Bryant or Russell Okung at #4 would be no more of a reach and no more of a risk than taking Claussen there. Drafting at four is a thankless position to be in, but adding McNabb doesn’t really change or magnify that.
The best hope the Redskins can have is that one of the teams drafting ahead of them does something unexpected. If the Rams pass on Bradford and he slides to 4 would mean lots of teams will be beating down the Redskins door to draft him. If Suh or McCoy fall out of the top 3 it could be similar. Even if a team in the 7-13 is bound and determined to get someone like Eric Berry or Jimmy Classuen they’ll have potential suitors.
By removing the dire need for a QB the Redskins actually improved their position in the draft by making them more flexible and more able to trade and less pressured to take Claussen.
No way in hell Suh falls out of the top 3. The Buccaneers might even trade up for him.
Did anyone else see the thread title and think, “WOW! They can DO that?”
How’d it work out for Green Bay? It has nothing to do with liking or disliking McNabb. It’s a media manufactured story in that regard. The Eagles had a young QB they loved in waiting. They absolutely had to get him the ball and see if he could take them the next step. If the Eagles didn’t have Kolb you can be assured that management would have been very happy to resign McNabb and keep plugging away. McNabb was traded because it was time for Kolb to step in, just like Favre was traded not because Green Bay disliked him but because Rodgers needed to play.
McNabb is still in his prime. Favre was not, at least not by conventional standards.
Unlikely but not impossible. It seems certain that the Rams will take Bradford and there have been rumblings that the Lions could be looking to go OT at #2. McCoy supposedly is a perfect fit for the Tampa system and lots of people prefer him over Suh. That he played in the SEC certainly wouldn’t hurt the chance that Tampa would favor him.
No one knows but the folks in Tampa what they prefer but you simply cannot say that there’s no chance that McCoy would go before Suh.
That’s entirely besides the point. And with McNabb’s durability issues there’s plenty of questions if he is indeed in his prime any more.
Sure I can.
There’s no chance that McCoy will go before Suh.
