The song by the Blues Brothers - Rubber Biscuit - does it have any meaning at all or is it just nonsense?
I’ve heard of “lung” biscuits, but never rubber…
Actually, the song dates from about 1956, and was originally recorded by the Chips, a doo-wop group from Brooklyn, NY. The original version has turned up on a number of novelty compilations, although I don’t think any are currently in print.
My take is, it’s just a guy trying to make a joke out of the fact that he’s got no money to buy some food. The tag is: whattaya want for nothin’…a rubber biscuit?
Then there’s a ricochet biscuit:
“A ricochet biscuit is the kind of a biscuit that’s supposed to bounce back off the wall into your mouth. If it don’t bounce back… you go hungry!”
THE BLUES BROTHERS, Briefcase Full of Blues (which closes with the line “What da ya want for nothing? … a rubber biscuit?” )
It’s what the Pillsbury Doughboy uses when he’s practicing safe sex…oh wait, that would be a “biscuit rubber”.
Gack. There’s a shot at my favorite bar called a ‘rubber biscuit’. Absolutely disgusting. I would rather eat a rubber biscuit than drink that again.
Have you ever heard of a wish sandwich? A wish sandwich is the kind of a sandwich where you have two slices of bread and you, [heh heh heh], you WISH you had some meat!
