As I’ve said before, I got Cal Meacham from the way-brainy scientist hero in This Island Earth. In the movie he’s played by tall, dark, handsome, deep-voiced Rex Reason (isn’t that the perfect name for an actor playing a charismatic scientist?)I only wish I lookec like him. Of course, the movie is also incredibly dumb, so I tell everyone I took the name from Raymond F. Jones’ original book, a nifty piece of well-written SF that was, on the whole, tossed out.
My Real Life Name, if you translate the different parts from their original languages, means “Crowned Wolf”.
my screenname is a bastardization of sephiroth, though that’s not what i think of when i say ‘saepiroth’. saepiroth makes me think of the ‘other’ checkbox in a world split between omnicient, omnipotent beings of good and evil.

Sailor means person who likes to screw mermaids or anything that moves and who lacks the imagination to find a more subtle screen name or even just a long one which would mess up people’s screens.
According to some of the baby name sites on the net, my name means Feminine Goddess of Canoe Makers. I mean, really. Canoe makers. What kind of person wants to give their child a name meaning Canoe Maker??
However, I believe that is wrong. The name responsible for the whole canoe thing is Leanne, which some baby name sites peg as originally Hawaiian, but that overlooks the totally obvious fact that Lea means field in English! My Australian-born parents of English heritage are unlikely to have chosen a name that is Hawaiian when that name appears in their own language. Which means that if you take my first name (Carol, meaning variously joyous melody or feminine (or manly according to one site)), and Lea plus Anne, you get Joyous Song of the Graceful Meadow, which is bizarre but prettier than Canoe Maker’s Goddess.
Searching, my sweet little sister-in-law is named Melissa. I thought Honey Bee was appropriate for her because she’s sweet and industrious, hard working, doesn’t complain and is a social little thing
