Melania Trump and Son Barron Won't Move Immediately into White House

The incoming First Lady, Melania Trump and her 10 year old son Barron, will not be joining Donald Trump into the White House upon inauguration this January.

The reason given is that they want to wait until the end of the school year, so as to not “disrupt” Barron’s education and life all so sudden. Views on social media have varied from supportive to to very critical.

So what are your views on this?

At first glance I think why should we care, it’s their personal life? But my guts tell me there is so etching more to this than meets the eye maybe?

  1. It’s tradition

  2. When running for president, Donald and Melania should have obviously planned to change schools from NYC to DC. Sure they did not anticipate winning but even now they have plenty of time to find a high end prep school in Washington from now till January to enroll Barron.

  3. Exactly how tramautising is changing schools for a 10 year old child? It’s not as if she would be bad mother of he changed schools and they moved to the White House? Many children have had to change schools, military brats, those whose parents are diplomats or have other non conventional careers. He is 10, which is not particularly a “small child”. Over the last 40 years since 1977, three administrations have had school aged kids-Carter, Clinton and Obama. In each case the children started school IN Washington DC and moved into the White House upon inauguration.

  4. Barron may have some disability or be autistic, but still there are programs in the area near the White House for him. Everything is provided for First Families and Donald Trump is a billionaire, so it should be a non issue. Heck they can home school him at the White House!!

  5. Melania has said Barron is her number one priority and she kept him away from the campaign trail. But it’s not like living in the White House would be awful for he child. Look even at Trump Tower they will still be followed your the press. So privacy can’t be the issue.

  6. Also the cost for taxpayers is going to go up, because secret service has to protect them in NYC while it would have been easier if they were all in the White House. Imagine how this will affect those living in Trump Tower, nearby businesses, traffic and everything else.

  7. This shows that Donald Trump and his family did not realize the sacrifices and realities of being president.

  8. Maybe this has nothing to do with Barron, it could be something more. Some say she is a gold digger, and staying at the penthouse while Donald is in the White House, allows her to be far from home him.

  9. Maybe this is Donalds idea, he wants her to be occupied with Barron, so as to not give her much duties like traveling and meetings which have become customers for first ladies. All modern first ladies have traveled without their husbands, taken up causes, given interviews. Donald may not be comfortable with Melania on her own, he ,as feel she would say or do something embarrassing. She has given two interviews prior to the election, and very rarely given speeches.

This fits into what some consider her image, that of trophy wife who just looks good and does nothing else. Donald always seemed much more at ease with oldest daughter Ivanka speaking for him that his own wife. Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton and previous presidents did not mind their wives doing their own public thing.

  1. Her life as she knew it will end but Trump probably never consulted her for her input regards to him running, and so she she never really asked for this. Being in the White House, it will be expected of her to take some cause and do something good productive with her time, whereas staying behind with her son will give her an excuse to not be pressured.

I’m just giving different potential scenarios. I’m sure if this were Obama, people would be screaming that he is a black Muslim who does not respect American tradition. Also the issue of more incurred costs to the American taxpayer from footing the bill of securing the White house and Trump Tower.

So what are your views?? Much ado about nothing, breaking of tradition or something more. I have to say the Trump administration will go down as the most strange, unconventional in modern U.S history.

My view is that this is a rant. Moving from Elections to The Pit.

[/moderating]

Much ado about zero. This is all ugly enough without dragging the youngest progeny into things.

Really? It’s not in the least strange if the first family were to not move into the White House? Look I could care less what they do to Barron’s educstion.

Even Donald was thinking about initially staying at Trump Tower even after inauguration, but has back pedaled since. I bet you have not found d that stra get either?

You run for president then you should move to the White house, if touch don’t like it then don’t run!!

from what some people are saying she didn’t want him to win and isn’t really interested in being first lady because she’s a model type and her social circles get sketchy …

It’s pretty disruptive. I mean, the Obamas were planning to stay in DC after he left office solely because he wanted his daughters to finish high school without a disruption. There might be an ulterior motive that we haven’t been told about, there might not. Both seem equally plausible.

What on earth difference does it make if the wife and kid move in, or the president either. He’s not elected to mow the lawn and rake the leaves, he can do his job from anywhere. To make an issue out of this is doubling up on the stupid.

Can he, really?

As much as this is the modern era and there are people who are able to do their jobs remotely, even companies that were built with telecommuting in mind have difficulties when employees aren’t co-located. The US government is not set up for the President to not be mostly in DC (and I don’t think that it is going to change in two months).
That said, I don’t think it matters at all where the President’s wife & child(ren) are.

There’s no way to secure Trump Tower in anywhere near the manner that the White House is.
Can you imagine trying to block off that part of Manhattan for the next four years.
Wanna hang a target on the outside of the building just to hasten the process?

I wonder if he thinks he can send home the Secret Service and the football guy every night?

Probably matters to Melania. Maybe she wants to put as much distance between her and ‘The Donald’ as she can.

Maria Shriver never left Bel Air while Arnold was governor and Arnie himself lived in a hotel across the street from the Capital, IIRC, and never did move into the governor’s mansion.

Of course he can work from ‘home/NYC’ He’ll just tweet his national security policies.

Can he work from home without using public e-mail or a private server?

Melania Trump didn’t run for office

Barron Trump DEFINITELY didn’t run for office

To my mind, they can live where they like. They’re people in their own right, not The Donald’s hand puppets and accessories.

This sounded to me like the first reasonable thing I’ve heard from him. The kid didn’t get elected, neither did his wife. Let them finish off the school year and then move to the White House. Trump’s got enough on his plate getting up to speed on the job; as a wise man once said, “A man’s got to know his limitations.”

Pretty much my thoughts. We can (and should) beat up on Mr. Trump for, well, an incredibly long list of reasons, but picking on his wife and kid are not okay. I wasn’t happy when Republicans picked on Mrs. Obama either.

Trump can hire his own host(ess). Hopefully with his own funds.

I’m sure Ivanka will still find time to serve as hostess at the White House in-between running Trumps hotels and sitting in on meetings with foreign leaders.

Presidents do not spend every day of their terms in the White House. They travel all over the country and the world and do their job wherever they are. We have secured presidents in more dangerous places than midtown Manhattan. The White House is not some magical structure built by freedom fairies. It doesn’t matter at all where the president lives or works.

This is one more example of the “normalization” of Trump’s completely abnormal behavior.

What would have been the reaction if Hillary Clinton did not want to move into the White House but decided to run the country from the Clinton Foundation offices? Tar & feathers, that’s what.

WHATEVER Donald does from now on will be perfectly acceptable, INCLUDING using a private email server, combining the country’s business with Trump company business, probably during the same meetings, appointing agency members that he’s currently doing battle with, and other things that seem ridiculous today, and tomorrow will be business as usual.

Bingo. Ivanka will be the de facto First Lady.

Didn’t a previous wife-less president some time back in the last century (or two) have his daughter/niece/something being first lady for him? So that’s not unprecedented.
