Melania Trump and Son Barron Won't Move Immediately into White House

I think “slippery slope” is the operative phrase for Donald and Ivanka.

The reaction from the people who object to what Trump wants to do would be fine with it. The GOP would make an issue out of it if it was Hillary. It’s not just that this is partisan political stupidity, it’s that it’s traditional GOP stupidity that the Democrats have adopted.

Drumpfft is buying time to avoid the white house & having to live in DC.

He may step down anyways.

Much ado about nothing. That is a private decision and none of the general public’s business.

Jesus Christ, I can’t imagine how this will affect the country – let the poor kid finish out the school year. Don’t start acting like the Freepers and go after a ten year old, fuck’s sake.

Thank you for giving us your public opinion on a totally private decision.

Poor Melania. Moving into the White House, for her, must be like moving into a slum dwelling.

Bob

It is public housing.
It’s fenced off from the rest of the community.
There are law enforcement officers patrolling constantly.

James Buchanan moved into the White House with his “valet” (i.e. partner) and had a lady friend named Harriet Lane, after which a large pediatric clinic in Baltimore was later named, accompany him to official functions.

IIRC, there was another unmarried president who had a female relative as an escort, and then he married so he didn’t need her for that purpose any more. Taft, maybe?

That Melania and Barron aren’t planning to move into the White House doesn’t bother me in itself. What does bother me are the security measures that will be needed, although I don’t think any of them really care about how much they’re inconveniencing the neighbors.

Plus, she’s hot enough that Trump might date her if she wasn’t his daughter.

Am I the only one who sees a Green Aches sketch in this?

This could be the big break that Monica Lewinsky’s been looking for. Is she still job hunting?

Mine are that your first-glance impression was right - why should we care.

Slightly off topic (and I’m sure it’s been raised in other threads/venues) but does that poor kid look like the most miserable 10 yr old in the world? (Can’t be fucked searching yada yada)

If getting away from this whole debacle (by staying in NY and not living with Daddy) will cheer him up a bit then I’m all for it.

Well, Trump is really punishing the city* that didn’t vote for him. (Warning: Audio included.)

Trump apparently plans to spend lots of time in NYC. Which will continue to disrupt traffic, as well as cost money. Trump Tower will need alteration for security & to support the Presidential staff. (Most presidential getaways have been rural–which simplified security. But those presidents couldn’t get away from work, even if they spent time cutting mesquite.) Hey, more money for Trump!

The decision to leave the family in place just means that Trump’s victory surprised him as much as it surprised all of us. They would have already found a school for the kid & Melania would have begun hiring the staff a First Lady needs–if they’d suspected. Just another aspect of the shambolic Trump regime. The White House has a nice apartment for the First Family–but it’s hardly as large & ornate as the Trump homestead.

  • Well, my city didn’t vote for him either. Most cities didn’t.

Or maybe it went down like this:

Any reason this scenario wouldn’t be more plausible?

The second item might not be a negative as far as the Trumps are concerned.

Grover Cleveland. He moved into the White House as a bachelor in his first term and his sister Rose served as hostess. He married 21 year old Frances Folsom in 1886.

Doesn’t the White House require considerable renovation?

Each incoming First Family puts its own touch on the White House, but it’s in sound structural shape. It was completely gutted and reconstructed in 1948 during the Truman administration.
