Each incoming First Family puts its own touch on the White House, but it’s in sound structural shape. It was completely gutted and reconstructed in 1948 during the Truman administration.

Architectural Digest has some pictures of the family rooms in the White House decorated to the Obamas’ taste. There are traditional bones & some fine traditional furniture; but modern art & comfy couches in some rooms.

This is one more example of the “normalization” of Trump’s completely abnormal behavior.

What would have been the reaction if Hillary Clinton did not want to move into the White House but decided to run the country from the Clinton Foundation offices? Tar & feathers, that’s what.

WHATEVER Donald does from now on will be perfectly acceptable, INCLUDING using a private email server, combining the country’s business with Trump company business, probably during the same meetings, appointing agency members that he’s currently doing battle with, and other things that seem ridiculous today, and tomorrow will be business as usual.
Bingo. Ivanka will be the de facto First Lady.

It’s fenced off from the rest of the community.

Except this decision will likely cost the taxpayers of New York $365 million per year, because the estimate for NYPD security for Trump Tower is estimated at $1 million per day while Melania and Barron live there.

If Melania and Barron never move to Washington, then the cost is over a billion dollars during Trump’s term.

If New York gets a federal subsidy, then the cost is transferred to all US taxpayers.

An expense of over one billion dollars from public money isn’t a matter of interest to the public?

^This too. Every time every president travels the other party complains about the costs and the locals complain about the traffic. Then they all line up with their hands out to take more money from the taxpayers. It costs millions to maintain Air Force 1, Marine 1, the Secret Service and all the other costs of protecting and serving the president and the government all the time. It’s expensive to have a president whether he’s in Washington or somewhere else, this is just more political noise, devoid of substance. Can’t you all wait until Trump actually does something stupid or evil instead of crying wolf? I’m sure it won’t take all that long.
