Memorial thread for Doper Askia (1970-2007)

I really enjoyed his posts and I haven’t seen him in a very long time.

Wow. I was just realizing that the other day as well. I checked, and it’s now been over a year since he posted. No goodbye that I saw. Pity.

Did he go anywhere with his online comic? If that ever made it public we can probably see what he is up to. I miss him too.

Damn!
:frowning:

Also, his father was Atlanta radio personality Ebon Dooley.

Oh damn indeed. That is really sad.

Fellow members the link is to his Memorial services back on October 11, 2007.

He was only 36.

Dammit. :frowning: He seemed like such a good person, what a shame.

Edit: Found this tribute via Google, which says it was a heart attack.

**Askia **was always one of my favorite posters. That’s really too bad.

Oh shit, I had no idea. He posted normally and just happened to die young- what a shame. He was a really interesting poster with a different take on things to say the least. I thought he was one of the guys who got lost in the shuffle or just found his priorities were taking him elsewhere. I wish that’d been the case.

With the OP’s permission I’ll change the thread title to indicate that this is a memorial thread.

I’m glad you asked that Marley, I was just going to ask about a title change myself. Ferret Herder, thank you for finding and sharing that tribute.

Oh damn. :frowning:

Sad news. I always enjoyed his posts.

I thought this was one of his best and most interesting threads: Way to kill my blowing off steam, cute lil’ white boy

I was refering to this thread in my first post: So… did I mention I’m starting a webcomic? (FAQ Q&A FWIW). There are links to his webcomic artwork.

:frowning:

I don’t think I even knew he was sort of a neighbor, with Orangeburg ties. Damn, that’s sad.

Not just Orangeburg ties, but he used to come to Columbia every once in a while, while he was in college in Orangeburg. I mentioned to him to come drop by Longhorn some evening when he was in town and chit-chat, but, unfortunately, that never happened.

Askia was my number one favorite poster of all time.

It is because of him that I fell in love with this place. Long before I was able to post, I lurked longingly at his posts, pretty much a full out groupie. R.I.P.

Well, that’s a kick in the head.

Damn. That sucks. I thought he was still around! Could have sworn I saw a post by him the other day :frowning:

Damn. I never got to meet him in person, but in his posts he came across as someone worth getting to know.

R.I.P. Askia :frowning:

A very sweet and engaging poster. I liked his style a lot. He is missed, badly, around here.
