Reading the “what’s under your bed?” thread, I got to thinking about seasonal clothes.
I hear all the time about how someone put all of their summer clothes into storage and got out their winter clothes. Then it occurred to me what an alien concept this is to me. I wear the same clothes year-round. Then it occurred to me that I have no memory of a man talking about seasonal clothes.
Is this just a woman thing? Men, do you put some clothes into storage for certain seasons? (And I’m not talking about coats, gloves, hats, etc.)
My husband is not a fashionable kind of guy, but he does have a few seasonal clothes. He has some short-sleeved sport shirts that he wears in the warm months, which he stores in the closet in the basement in the winter. He also has some chamois-textured shirts and a few pullover sweaters that he puts away in the summer.
My dad totally has seasonal clothes, and a lot of them. My SO is more like you. His only concession to “seasonal” is short-sleeved shirts and a couple of pairs of shorts.
Yes, I do. But only the ‘top half’. I have polo shirts and the like, that I only wear in spring/summer and I have sweaters that I only wear in the autumn and winter. I usually have one moment a season where I switch and then I just make due. Once I have switched, I rarely go back if there happens to be an unexpected warm/cold spell.
My seasonal wardrobe consists of my winter coat in the front-hall closet.
(OK, I also have cargo shorts that I wear in the summer, but there’s no particular ritual involved in laying them to rest come winter. They just go in the shorts drawer.)
Here in the east coast area we definitely get winter from around mid-December til maybe mid-March, and my cabana wear is totally unsuitable. Same goes for July and August; much too hot for wool sweaters.
My wardrobe, winter or summer, Texas or Greenland, consists of t-shirts, jeans, and sneakers. In extreme cold, I’ll wear a sweater or jacket over the t-shirt. The only exceptions are when I’m wearing a costume (which is pretty frequently) or going somewhere that requires me to dress up a bit.
Where do you live—what kind of climate? Around here, there are some months when it’s just too hot for certain clothes, and other months when it’s just too cold for others. I hardly ever wear shorts in the winter, or heavy, long-sleeve shirts in summer.
I guess so. I have sweaters I wear sometimes in the winter, but not in the summer. I have shorts and bathing suits I wear in the summer, but rarely in the winter. I have short sleeved shirts- polo shirts, I guess- I’ll wear to work sometimes in the summer, but rarely in the winter. Snow/ski clothes, obviously. I don’t put anything away seasonally, though. Everything except outerwear fits into my dresser and closet.
Yep. Sweaters that only get worn in the winter. Heavy jackets/coats that are packed away all summer and light jackets/coats that are packed away all winter. Long sleeved tees that replace the short sleeved tees as under shirts though current fashions being what they are these are fair game all year. Then there are less often worn but truly seasonal items. The insulated jeans, wool pants, heavy boots, hats, scarves, and gloves for dealing with winters significantly sub-zero days.
Yeah, I have a whole bunch of short-sleeve t-shirts for warm weather, and long-sleeve tee’s for when it’s cold. I only wear my corduroy pants in cold weather and I even have a pair of flannel lined jeans for when it’s bitter cold.
Well I live in southeastern Texas, and we don’t really have seasons in the sense that many other parts of North America do. That said, I still have things I only wear in the cold season (late December through mid February): sweaters and corduroy pants for casual wear; flannel pajama pants for around the house; and perhaps most significant are dark wool suits. When I worked at a job that required suit and tie I had my heavier weight wool suits dry-cleaned, bagged, and put away from April to Thanksgiving.
